The White Tower is the center of learning and government of the Aes Sedai.[1]

Overview[]

The White Tower is the tallest building in Tar Valon, and was built with the help of Ogier stonemasons in the earliest centuries after the Breaking of the World. It is the seat of Aes Sedai power, and also houses their bonded warriors - the Warders, as well as the Aes Sedai's initiates: the novices and the Accepted.[2][3]

The Tower contains the Hall of the Tower, where the Amyrlin Seat metes out justice and coordinates Tower policy with the three Sitters of each Ajah. It also contains the Warder's Quarters, and individual quarters for each of the seven Ajahs, such as the Blue Ajah Quarters.

History[]

Season 1[]

Moiraine Damodred has developed a reputation of mystery after flitting back and forth from the White Tower for twenty years, hiding her secret mission to search for the Dragon Reborn.[4][5] She returns to the Tower for the first time in two years in the company of her warder, Lan Mandragoran, as well as Nynaeve al'Meara, one of five candidates for the Dragon, having been separated from the others in Shadar Logoth. She is in the company of Liandrin Guirale, Alanna Mosvani, and the other sisters sent to capture the False Dragon, Logain Ablar. After her return, Moiraine is forced to deal with the complex politics in the Tower, such as those who wish to enlist Nynaeve as a novice at once, as well as many who believe that she could unseat the Amyrlin Seat herself, Siuan Sanche.[6]

Siuan summons the sisters involved in Logain's capture to the Hall in the Tower, sentencing him to imprisonment for his actions as a False Dragon, but also reprimands the Aes Sedai for gentling him outside a proper trial, though the sisters involved believe that he was too powerful to contain, evidenced by his killing of Kerene Nagashi. Moiraine's own actions and her lack of clear communication with the Tower also come under scrutiny. Moiraine and Siuan are secretly lovers, but Moiraine asks Siuan to exile her so that her quest for the Dragon can be completed, as Maigan has ordered her to stay in the Tower. The Amyrlin also meets with the two powerful female channelers from the Two Rivers, Nynaeve and Egwene. When Moiraine is next summoned to the Hall, she is exiled from the Tower until the Amyrlin calls her home, and departs at once to continue her quest.[5]

Season 2[]

Lady Elayne Trakand, the Daughter-Heir of Andor, is studying in the White Tower as a novice.[7]
