February is Black History Month! The Wiki of Time, The Wheel of Time TV Series Wiki, is happy to take this opportunity to observe black heritage and history, and to celebrate black characters, cast, and crew in the media we love.
About Black History Month[]
Black History Month in the United States is in February. It had origins back in February 1926 as Negro History Week. In 1975, President Ford issued a Message on the Observance of Black History Week urging all Americans to "recognize the important contribution made to our nation's life and culture by black citizens." Black History Month was first observed a year later in February 1976 and it continues to be observed annually.
Black History Month is observed around the world, and not just in February! While the United States and Canada observe it this month, other places such as Europe observe it in October, and several African nations observe African History Month in March.

The Wheel of Time has some excellent talent to spotlight for Black History Month! This year, we are recognizing the amazing individuals who brought season 1 to life. (Season 2 promises new cast and crew, but we will wait for its release!) We encourage you to check their articles on the wiki, read about them, and fill in any important information that we've missed.

One of the opportunities -- and purposes -- of observing Black History Month is to reflect, and we believe it is important that all of us in The Wheel of Time fan community takes a moment to take a hard look at the actions of ourselves and our fellow fans.
When the casting was announced for The Wheel of Time and it revealed that some of the casted actors were black, the reaction of some fans was... not great. Some of it was abhorrent. To say there was a backlash to the show casting actors of color would be an understatement. Even more than a year later when the show came out, disgruntled fans review-bombed episodes and cited the casting as one of the reasons.
In response to that, many other fans stood up to the backlash and called it out for what it was: racism. While there have been places online that lack either moderators or interest to handle this problem, many fan communities stepped up and cleaned house. But this problem is much bigger than The Wheel of Time, and such racism continues to rear up in online communities whenever there is diverse casting.
As fans and members of our fan communities, we have the opportunity and the responsibility to make it clear that such behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
The Wheel of Time Wiki firmly stands in support of the casting choices and of the show's many ways of embracing diversity.
