Three rings

The three rings make up a ter'angreal in Rhuidean. It allows the user to see their future again and again in variation.

It is used by new Wise One apprentices as part of their initiation.

History[]

Season 3[]

Aviendha asks leave to enter Rhuidean when she begins her training with the Wise Ones. Moiraine Damodred is also allowed to enter the rings, despite neither being a Wise One nor an Aiel. Melaine is aware that she would have died if she did not come to the Aiel Waste.[1] Aviendha enters the rings first. Moiraine finds her and follows Moiraine's visions:

  1. Moiraine is a fisherwoman in Tear and asks a lover, presumably Siuan Sanche, what is wrong.
  2. Moiraine is the Amyrlin Seat, and Egwene is her Keeper of the Chronicles. She kills Rand in the Hall of the Tower.
  3. Moiraine releases Lan from his bond.
  4. Moiraine bonds with Rand and makes him her Warder.
  5. Lan is on fire and dies. Moiraine extinguishes him and hears a woman cackling, presumably Lanfear.
  6. Moiraine is Amyrlin and cries as Rand dies in the Aiel Waste.
  7. Moiraine, as Amyrlin, and Lan kill Rand in the Aiel Waste.
  8. In the Two Rivers, Moiraine swears herself to Rand as the Dragon Reborn
  9. In the Ways, a beaten and bloodied Moiraine wearing rags faces off Lanfear and Moghedien, as well as Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne, all of whom have turned to the Shadow. Her throat is slit by Lanfear.
  10. Moiraine and Rand have sex.
  11. Moiraine and Lanfear start having sex, before Lanfear strangles Moiraine.
  12. Lanfear appears to have assumed control of the White Tower. Moiraine stands up to her, but is stabbed in the throat.
  13. Lanfear slits Moiraine's throat in the streets of Tar Valon.
  14. Lanfear slits Moiraine's throat in the Aiel Waste.
  15. Lanfear slits Moiraine's throat in the Aiel Waste again, with a slight variation.
  16. Lanfear slices Moiraine across her torso with a blade while in the Aiel Waste, then stabs her in the back.
  17. Lanfear strangles Moiraine in the Aiel Waste.

Moiraine has a look of terror throughout her face during the later visions. Rand refuses to leave her alone. Seven days after they set out to Rhuidean, he returns carrying an unconscious Moiraine.
