A stedding is a home of the Ogier.

Shadowspawn will not enter steddings. The One Power cannot be accessed at all inside a stedding.
Ogier that go away from the steddings for too long risk succumbing to the Longing, where they may die if they do not return home from the outside world. It is therefore very rare for an Ogier to leave the stedding, but some do seek adventure in the human world.[1]
