Shienar is a nation in the Westlands, and is considered part of the Borderlands. It borders the Great Blight to the north, the Spine of the World to the east, wilderness to the south, and Arafel to the west.[1]

Shienar will feature in the events of Season 1.[2]

Overview[]

Shienar is one of the nations of the Borderlands, where human civilization of the Westlands meets the Blight, the heartland of the Shadow. Combat and honor are considered a way of life there.[3]

History[]

After Malkier was lost to the Blight, the neighboring nation of Shienar became home to many Malkieri refugees, including the nation's uncrowned king, the young Lan Mandragoran, who came to reside in Fal Dara.

Season 1[]

Lan Mandragoran returns to Fal Dara with his Aes Sedai, Moiraine Damodred, and their companions, Rand al'Thor, Perrin Aybara, Egwene al'Vere, Nynaeve al'Meara, and Loial, who intend to ride to the Eye of the World with one of the youths, who is believed to be the Dragon Reborn. They are greeted by Lord Agelmar and Lady Amalisa Jagad in the city. It is here that Rand learns from Min Farshaw that he is the Dragon, and ventures into the Blight with Moiraine.[4]

A great Shadowspawn army thus threatens to attack Fal Dara and overwhelm Shienar, and the city prepares to defend itself. Lord Agelmar rides to the fortifications of Tarwin's Gap with the men of the city, while Lady Amalisa prepares the defenses of the city. The men deter many of the Shadowspawn at the Gap, but the fortifications are overwhelmed. Amalisa, Egwene, Nynaeve, and two other female channelers manage to defeat the remaining Shadowspawn, though the huge surge of power is too much for Amalisa, and she and the other women are gravely injured as they begin to burn up. Meanwhile, believing that the Last Battle has come, Uno Nomesta and Lord Yakota begin to unearth the Horn of Valere, hidden in Fal Dara, but they and Loial are attacked with a ruby-hilted dagger from Shadar Logoth by the Darkfriend Padan Fain, who steals the Horn and flees the city.[5]
