Sheriam Bayanar is a character in The Wheel of Time television series, first appearing in season 2. She is portrayed by Rima Te Wiata.
Sheriam is the Mistress of Novices in the White Tower.[1]
History[]
Early life[]
Sheriam trained at the White Tower in Tar Valon and became an Aes Sedai, choosing the Blue Ajah. Sheriam managed to become Mistress of Novices, training newcomers to the White Tower.[1] She became bonded to a Warder named Arinvar.[2]
Season 2[]
Sheriam holds a meeting with several other Aes Sedai on the training of novices. She asks Alanna as to how Egwene al'Vere is getting along. Alanna responds that Egwene needs to "loosen up", and then changes her conversation to talk about Nynaeve al'Meara, as her block is even more concerning. Liandrin suggests she step in as a teacher, but Sheriam denies her this, pointing out that a novice died in her care. However, Sheriam does at least allow Liandrin to talk to Nynaeve after the Red sister tries to frame Nynaeve as a potent weapon against the Shadow.[3]

- The character Sheriam was first confirmed in a video released at JordanCon on April 22, 2023.[1]
- The video introduced the character as "Sheriam Bayalar" (rather than "Bayanar"). Show consultant Sarah Nakamura believes this is a typo.[4] This makes this the second time an introduced character's name is misspelled, after Ila (introduced as Illa).
- Sheriam's first look was revealed in a clip released on August 23, 2023.[5]

Changes from the book series[]
Sheriam Bayanar is an adaptation of the character of the same name 
(book spoilers!) from the book series.
- In the book series, Sheriam is relatively young for an Aes Sedai, as she is only in her late forties and still has her bright red hair. In the television series, Sheriam has a much more mature appearance, even with the One Power slowing the rate at which Aes Sedai age.
