Sandra Yi Sencindiver is an Korean-American-Danish actress who portrays Lady Amalisa Jagad on Prime Video's The Wheel of Time.

General overview[]

Prior to The Wheel of Time, Sandra Yi Sencindiver was best known for portraying Jaidee in the TV series Bäckström (2020), Nina Sloth in the TV series Gidseltagningen (2017), and Susanne in The Bridge (2018), and for voicing the characters Ljufvina and Yanli in the video game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (2020). She will also have a notable role in the second season of Apple TV's Foundation (2023).

Sandra Yi Sencindiver initially auditioned for another character in The Wheel of Time. It came down to her and one other actress, and they cast the other actress in the role. The production came back to her a month later and offered her a smaller part, but she declined because she already had a project with the World Theatre during the scheduled filming time. A month after that, they offered her a bigger part and she really wanted to do it. She was still committed to the project at the World Theatre, but she contacted the director and they agreed to let her go so she could take the role in The Wheel of Time.[1]

Sandra Yi Sencindiver and co-star Thomas Chaanhing have been friends since 2001 when they debuted on stage together.[1] Chaanhing later suggested to Sencindiver that she get an international agent. Sencindiver did so, and her new agent helped her get cast in The Wheel of Time. At the table read, Sencindiver didn't see who was portraying her character's brother Lord Agelmar Jagad, so she talked to casting director Kelly Valentine Hendry who said the role hadn't been cast yet. Sencindiver recommended Thomas Chaanhing for the role, so the casting team reached out to his agent for an audition tape and he got the part.[1][2]

Trivia[]

  • Sandra Yi Sencindiver was offered a role for Foundation season 1 while she was filming The Wheel of Time in Prague. She turned it down because she had already been away from her family for so long and didn't want to immediately go into another long shoot. She was later offered a bigger role in Foundation season 2, which she accepted.
