Morgase Trakand is a character introduced in season 3 of The Wheel of Time television series, portrayed by Olivia Williams.[1] She is the Queen of Andor, and the mother of Galad, Gawyn and Elayne Trakand.[2][3]
History[]
Early life[]
Morgase was not born as the heir to the throne of Andor.[3] She studied at the White Tower when she was young. She was not a strong enough channeler to progress past being a novice, but was given an honorary Great Serpent ring, reflecting the traditional alliance between Andor and the Tower.[4]
When Tigraine Mantear went missing and Queen Mordrellen died, Morgase fought a brutal war of succession against a half-dozen noble rivals. Thanks to her political savvy and ruthlessness, she ended up the winner. Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan supported her throughout the war.[3][5] By the time of her coronation, Morgase had two sons, Galad and Gawyn, and was pregnant with a daughter. Upon taking the throne, she told her rivals that she forgave their actions against her, but could not risk her daughter facing her own succession war, and ordered them killed.[4]
In spite of her actions during the war, Morgase has become one of the greatest queens that Andor has ever known. She has sworn to shield her daughter and heir, Elayne, from repeating what she had to do during the war.[3] Morgase supported the idea of her daughter going to the White Tower with the aspiration of reaching the rank of a full Aes Sedai, believing it would benefit her politically.[4]
Season 2[]
Morgase's daughter and heir, Elayne, departs Caemlyn so that she can enroll as a Novice in the White Tower. A servant lets Elayne in with a vast collection of items as a favor for Morgase.[6]
When Elayne, Egwene and Nynaeve have been taken to Falme, Verin Mathwin asks questions around the Tower as to their whereabouts. She finds that Sheriam Bayanar seemingly forgot about noting down that the Novices went to visit Elayne's home in Caemlyn. Sheriam notes that the report says that the three were accompanied by a force of Queen Morgase's soldiers, and is thus sure that all is well.[2]
Season 3[]
Morgase comes to the White Tower after Elayne's mysterious disappearance. She asks Siuan Sanche what happened in the Hall of the Tower, wanting assurances on her daughter's wellbeing. Morgase is delighted to see Elayne, but tells her that she wants her back in Caemlyn, due to the political problems she is facing back home. She tells Elayne to depart with an honorary Great Serpent ring, instead of trying to become a full Aes Sedai. Nevertheless, Elayne is determined to stay at the White Tower and train with the Aes Sedai. Morgase accepts Elayne remaining at the White Tower, and declares that Galad and Gawyn shall stay behind to complete their Warder training, and that Elaida will also return to the Tower.[4]

Oh, goodness, yes. Here it is. A visit to Elayne's home in Caemlyn. The three were signed out just the other day.- Verin
That seems worth remembering.- Sheriam
It is. I, um... I don't know how it slipped my mind, frankly.- Verin
It's quite unusual.- Sheriam
That it is. But it appears the three were accompanied by a force of Queen Morgase's soldiers, so I'm sure all's well, and we will hear from Caemlyn in a few days' time.- Verin
