Malkier is a fallen nation of the Westlands, and is considered part of the Borderlands. It was lost to the Great Blight.
Overview[]
Malkieri follow the honorable customs of the Borderlands. They have a distinct cultural dress, and men wear a thin, braided leather headband called a hadori that is awarded on the transition from boyhood to manhood,[1] while women have a painted dot on their forehead.[2]
History[]
The last royal family of Malkier was House Mandragoran. Malkier was lost to the Great Blight in the 950s-960s NE.[3][2] Zahir and his family saved Lan Mandragoran, the infant son of the king and queen, from the palace on the night that the nation was lost, and took him to Fal Dara in Shienar. The nation is now completely lost, but many of its people and their descendants carry on its customs as refugees in the rest of the Borderlands.[2]
Season 1[]
On returning to Fal Dara, Lan meets with Zahir's family of Malkieri refugees and their descendants, and enjoys a meal with them for the night. He introduces them to Nynaeve al'Meara, and soon acknowledges his feelings toward her.[2]
In the Blight, Moiraine Damodred and Rand al'Thor observe the Seven Towers of Malkier from afar. They have decayed to a state far worse than when they have abandoned, and that the Blight surrounds them much more than it used to, which Moiraine believes is due to the increasing power of the Dark One as He begins to stir.[4]

Trivia[]
- Malkieri fashion was inspired by Korean hanbok. Isis Mussenden was originally inspired by more Japanese designs, but ended up being inspired by Korea due to Daniel Henney's Korean heritage.[5]
