The Maidens of the Spear (Far Dareis Mai in the Old Tongue) are an Aiel warrior society composed entirely of women.
History[]
The Maidens of the Spear fought in the Aiel War against the Cairhienin and their allies from the Westlands. During the Battle of the Shining Walls, Tigraine Mantear killed and defeated many Illianer soldiers in spite of her advanced pregnancy and the onset of labor, though was mortally wounded in the fighting. She was found by Tam al'Thor, though the soldier took pity on her and helped her deliver her son, the Dragon Reborn. Tam adopted her son, Rand.[1]
Season 2[]
Aviendha, a Maiden of the Spear, is held in a cage by Children of the Light in Atuan's Mill. She is freed by Perrin Aybara, and the two defeat many Whitecloaks together. When they make camp, Aviendha explains that she has left the Three-fold Land to search for the Car'a'carn, the Aiel Chief of Chiefs.[2]
