The Last Battle (Old Tongue: Tarmon Gai'don) is the prophesized apocalyptic battle between the Light and the Shadow that will end the Third Age.
Overview[]
Since the very early Third Age, it has been known that the Age will end when the Light and the Shadow fight in the Last Battle.[1] Many prophecies relating to the end of the Age are chronicled in the Karaethon Cycle.[2]
Prelude[]
The time of the prophesized Last Battle begins to approach following the birth of the Dragon Reborn, Rand al'Thor, in 978 NE.[3]
By 998 NE, the Westlands starts to be plunged into chaos. Shadowspawn enter the Ways to attack the Two Rivers, which forces the Dragon and his companions to leave their quiet village. Aiel are also spotted west of the Spine of the World for the first time since the Aiel War, and unknown ships are spotted on the western coast of the continent.[4]
