Jearom Gaidin is a legendary swordsman in The Wheel of Time Origins. The Warders remember Jearom as the greatest blademaster of all time.

History[]

Life and legacy[]

Jearom was a great swordsman of his time, and he allegedly won ten thousand victories. He was defeated only once, by a farmer with a wooden quarterstaff. The story of Jearom is passed down among the Warders. [1]

Origins[]

During a Warder training session, a trainee wielding a sword is defeated by an opponent wielding a quarterstaff. A Warder instructor gets the trainee up and goes over the story of Jearom with him. The instructor tells it as a cautionary tale, advising the trainee to respect his opponent regardless of the weapon they wield.[1]

Changes from the book series[]

Jearom is an adaptation of the character of the same name  (book spoilers!) from the book series.

  • Warder - In the books, there is no indication that Jearom was a Warder, only that he was a great swordsman.
  • Legacy - The episode suggests that the story of Jearom might only be well-known among the Warders ("Only legends pass through the ranks of the Warders."), but in the books, Jearom is a fairly well-known legendary figure.
