Illian is a nation in the Westlands. It borders wilderness to the north as well as to the east, across which lies the nation of Tear, while Altara borders Illian to the west. It is located on the southern coast of the continent, north of the Sea of Storms.[1]

Illian is notable for the elite military force that is part of its national army: the famous Illianer Companions, where foreigners may rise high through the ranks.[2]
Illianers regularly speak with a distinct dialect of the New Tongue, regularly using the emphatic tense.[3]
History[]
Illian was allied with Cairhien during the Aiel War, when the Aiel invaded the Westlands after the Cairhienin violated a centuries-old truce with the Aiel. The Illianer Companions fought bravely at the Battle of the Shining Walls.[4]
