Ihvon is a character in The Wheel of Time television series. He is portrayed by Emmanuel Imani in seasons 1 and 2, and by Anthony Kaye in season 3.
Ihvon is one of Alanna Mosvani's two Warders, the other being Maksim. "The three of them have a complicated relationship built on love, sex, and respect that welds them into a fearsome force in battle."[1]
History[]
Early life[]
Ihvon was born in Andor. He chose to become a Warder, as he had fallen in love with Alanna Mosvani. Meanwhile, Maksim came to the White Tower as he had fallen in love with Ihvon. Both Ihvon and Maksim were bonded by Alanna. The three all became lovers of one another.[2][3]
Season 1[]
Maksim and Ihvon are camped with the Aes Sedai after the capture of Logain Ablar. They have dinner with the other Warders and Nynaeve al'Meara, and Ihvon is affectionately sitting by Maksim, as Stepin is joking about Lan's history. Nynaeve says she found Lan by tracking him, and Ihvon and the others laugh. When Nynaeve says that Warders are more fun than they look, Maksim jokes that he "looks fun", prompting a joking and exasperated response from Ihvon that Nynaeve should not encourage him. Nynaeve says that the Warders "serve" the Aes Sedai, and the group falls silent, with Stepin explaining that their bond is stronger than anything, and they serve Aes Sedai who serve the world. Lan says that this makes them proud to stand by the Aes Sedai, and Ihvon jokes that it also makes them tired -- a sexual innuendo that the other Warders also joke about. When Alanna is by the fire, Maksim and Ihvon retire with her for the night, and before leaving, Ihvon once more says suggestively, "We're exhausted." As they leave, Nynaeve realizes that the three of them are together, and the remaining Warders chuckle at her surprise.[4]
When Logain's followers attack the Aes Sedai camp, Ihvon and Maksim stand by Alanna as they hold off the oncoming army to let the others return to the cave, as they realize that Logain must have broken free. As Alanna unleashes a massive attack of the One Power, Ihvon and Maksim fight off many of Logain's soldiers. The three return to the cave as Liandrin and the other sisters link to gentle Logain, and Ihvon witnesses Alanna join the Aes Sedai in doing so.[4]
Ihvon attends the mass funeral held for Kerene Nagashi, the King of Ghealdan, and the other combatants who fell in battle. The group makes their way back to Tar Valon over a month with Logain kept on a leash, and returns to the White Tower. Ihvon, Maksim, and Lan are with Stepin as he prepares to melt Kerene's Great Serpent ring. Stepin considers being bonded by Alanna to help the loss of Kerene and serving alongside Maksim and Ihvon, but struggles with the idea of being bonded to someone else. Eventually, he commits suicide due to the great sense of depression induced by his Aes Sedai's death. Ihvon attends Stepin's funeral with the other Warders and guests, dressed all in white.[5]
When Alanna is called to the Hall of the Tower to answer for the extrajudicial gentling of Logain, Ihvon and Maksim are waiting for her when she is dismissed with the other Aes Sedai. They seamlessly fall into step behind Alanna as she speaks with Moiraine.[6]
Season 2[]
Egwene is extremely embarrassed to walk in on Ihvon, Maksim, and Alanna during an intimate moment when she is cleaning up in Aes Sedai's personal quarters as part of her novice duties.
Later, Nynaeve spars with Ihvon and Maksim, as she is unable to get over her channeling block. Ihvon and Maksim tell her that she can succeed if she focuses on whatever brought her to the Tower.[3]
Season 3[]
Ihvon and Maksim see Alanna as she goes to enter the Hall of the Tower, although they are not allowed to enter with her. Ihvon and Maksim unsuccessfully try to get into the Hall when a fight breaks out. They block the path of the Red Sitters Tsutama Rath and Galina Casban from entering, thinking they will side with Liandrin. Jeaine Caide and Chesmal Emry approach and knock aside Galina, leaving only Tsutama standing. Jeaine and Chesmal reveal themselves as Black Ajah, and Tsutama blocks their attacks, protecting herself and the Warders, including Ihvon.[7]
Ihvon and Maksim reunite with Alanna and join her in searching the streets of Tar Valon for the Black Ajah. Ihvon stands at Alanna's side as she confronts Liandrin and the others. During the confrontation, Ihvon and Maksim stab Liandrin through the chest and nearly decapitate her, but Jeaine stops Ihvon's sword. Ihvon, Maksim, and Alanna are knocked down, and as Liandrin and the others escape, Liandrin raises one of the swords and launches it at Alanna. Both Ihvon and Maksim move to shield Alanna, and Ihvon takes the sword through his heart, killing him instantly. Both Maksim and Alanna feel his death through the bond, and Alanna screams over Ihvon's body.[7]
Ihvon's death weighs on Alanna and Maksim, who struggle with their grief after his loss. In the Two Rivers, Alanna talks about mourning Ihvon to Perrin, and she explains that the face paint she wears in mourning is made partly of Ihvon's ashes. Maksim continues to carry the bloodied sword that killed Ihvon.[8]
