House Damodred is a fallen house from Cairhien, once the ruling family of the nation.

History[]

At the time of Lady Moiraine Damodred's birth, House Damodred was the royal family of Cairhien. However, while she was at the White Tower, King Laman Damodred inadvertently started the Aiel War when he violated Cairhien's centuries-old pledge of peace with the Aiel. The Aiel War lasted for a little over two years, and the king was killed in the Battle of the Shining Walls.[1][2] After the war, House Damodred fell from grace for the devastation Laman had caused, and was considered a fallen House.[3]

Season 1[]

When Moiraine prepares Rand, Mat, Perrin and Egwene to face the Children of the Light, she tells them to act as if she is a lady from a fallen house, which is technically true.[4] In the Hall of the Tower, Siuan Sanche questions whether Moiraine's noble birth makes her question the command of the Amyrlin Seat, using her full name and title.[5]

Season 2[]

Moiraine visits her old family home in Cairhien when she returns to the city to look for Rand al'Thor. She reunites with her sister, Anvaere, for the first time in decades. After their reunion, Anvaere explains how she has led the family and tried to regain its position in Cairhienin politics. Her son is betrothed to the queen, and she has a personal eyes-and-ears network all over the city.[6]

Season 3[]

In Rhuidean, Moiraine tells Rand how Laman cut the grown sapling of Avendesora to build a throne, and how he started the Aiel War.[2]

Members of House Damodred[]

Household[]

  • Jhonas, a butler at Anvaere's estate.

Changes from the book series[]
