The Horn of Valere is a powerful artifact with the ability to call forward the greatest heroes of the Pattern.
Overview[]
It is said that the Dragon Reborn shall use the Horn of Valere in the Last Battle.
For a very long time, the Horn has secretly been hidden in Fal Dara.[1]
The horn is textured and golden with a circular shape. Instead of a traditional bell shape, the air exits the horn through air slits. On both sides of the horn is an inscription in the old tongue: "Tia mi aven Moridin isainde vadin", translation: "The Grave is no bar to my call."
History[]
Season 1[]
When Lord Agelmar Jagad believes the Last Battle has come, he orders his men to dig up the Horn of Valere from its secret hiding place. Lord Yakota and Uno Nomesta start to retrieve the box the Horn is held in, and is later joined by Loial and Perrin Aybara. However, they are attacked by the Darkfriend Padan Fain, who steals the Horn.[1]
Season 2[]
The Hunt for the Horn of Valere is called in Illian. Meanwhile, Perrin and Loial join up with Lord Ingtar Shinowa's party of Shienaran soldiers, who are going after Fain and the Horn.[2]
In Falme, Ishamael and Fain present High Lord Turak with the Horn. Turak is impressed, and says that the Horn will allow the Seanchan to conquer the world.[3]
Loial and Ingtar Shinowa, now da'covale, plan to take the Horn, as the Seanchan have an unusual degree of trust in their enslaved servants.[4] With the aid from "a lady from Cairhien", most likely Lanfear, they are able to retrieve the Horn, delivering it to Perrin Aybara and the Maidens of the Spear. Mat Cauthon arrives, and cuts the chest the Horn is in with the end of the ruby-hilted dagger. Mat plans to take the Horn to Rand, but is confronted by a large group of Seanchan soldiers. He blows the Horn, and remembers that he is one of its Heroes. Once the other Heroes arrives, Mat hands the Horn to Amaresu. The Heroes disappear from the world once the Dragon Reborn is proclaimed, and the location of the Horn is unknown once more.[5]
Appearances[]
The Horn of Valere is present in season 1 but is stored in a closed chest where it remains unseen. The side of it is first glimpsed in season 2 episode 5, and it is first fully seen in the season 2 finale.
