Lord Galad Damodred of House Trakand is a character introduced in season 3 of The Wheel of Time television series. He is portrayed by Callum Kerr.

Lord Galad is "a royal prince of Andor, and older brother to Gawyn and Elayne. Despite being the firstborn, he is not the heir to the throne. Andor is a matriarchy, and so the role of heir falls to his younger sister, Elayne."[1]

Trivia[]

  • On July 21, 2023, WoT Series first reported that Callum Kerr's online CV was updated to show he would portray the character "Galad Trakand".[2]
  • On December 18, 2024, Galad's character was confirmed.[3]
  • On the day the character was announced, the press release stated that Galad was portrayed by Luke Fetherston,[1] causing confusion. Luke Fetherston confirmed on his Instagram that he was portraying Gawyn.

Changes from the book series[]

Lord Galad is an adaptation of the character of the same name  (book spoilers!) from the book series.

  • Introduction - Galad is introduced later in the story in the TV series. In the books, he and the rest of the royal family are introduced in the first book The Eye of the World, which was adapted in season 1.
  • In the books, Galad was the son of Andor's previous Daughter-Heir, Tigraine Mantear, and her husband Taringail Damodred (Taringail being Moiraine Damodred's half-brother), and was adopted by Morgase Trakand, who married Taringail after Tigraine disappeared. This makes him a half-brother of Gawyn and Elayne on his father's side and of Rand al'Thor on his mother's side. Galad's last name being given as "Damodred" rather than "Trakand" in the credits, as well as his younger brother Gawyn being First Prince of the Sword, imply this is also the case in the show, but it has not yet been discussed onscreen directly.
