Previously on[]

Egwene: Where's Nynaeve?
Sheriam: She went into the Arches, but she never came out.
Elnore Jr.: Mummy, what's that?
Nynaeve: Come on, sweetheart, we have to go.
Alanna: When a Warder loses his Aes Sedai, it's almost like he's swallowed her death.
Lan: I'm still your Warder.
Moiraine: No, you failed me. Alanna will see you to the Tower.
Min: You really don't want to know what I see when I look at you?
Mat: Absolutely not.
Min: Mat is coming with me.
Liandrin: You know the way? Don't let me down.
Selene: Lady Anvaere, don't you wonder why she wanted to talk to you?
Rand: What is your reason for helping me?
Selene: You'll help me remember. And I'll help you forget.
Elyas: Let's go. Run! He'll show you where.
Bayle Domon: The whole dial was covered in a poem, written in Old Tongue.
Moiraine: We didn't defeat the Dark One. We set his strongest lieutenant free. Ishamael may be waking the other Forsaken.

Ruins[]

Ishamael walks through old ruins. At a Seal positioned overhead, he channels upwards while chanting in the Old Tongue. The seal shatters. A blood-covered woman appears crouched before him. He steps toward her and speaks in the common tongue.

Ishamael: Blood feeds blood.

The woman begins to rise. Blood drips from her fingertips and long hair.

Ishamael: Blood calls blood. Blood is... blood was... and blood shall ever be.

She extends her bloodied hand to Ishamael, who takes it firmly.

Cairhien[]

At her manor, Lady Anvaere wakes. She puts on a wig. She rings a bell and a servant helps her dress. She takes a morning drink in a quiet room surrounded by paintings, with canvases stacked against walls and cabinets, and paint brushes covering a work desk. Jhonas, the butler, steps in.

Jhonas: My lady, there's, um... there's someone at the door.
Anvaere: It's early for a visitor. Who?
Jhonas: It's, um... It's your... older sister.

Properly dressed, Anvaere sits at a table in a room. Jhonas escorts in Moiraine Damodred.

Jhonas: Yes, my lady... If you'd just, uh, c-come in here.
Moiraine: You look well, little sister.
Anvaere: As do you. Please, sit. We didn't know...
Moiraine: I won't trouble you for tea. I have stabled my horse, and I would use my old room if it's open. But I want to keep a low profile here in the city.
Anvaere: Of course, we--
Moiraine: Jhonas, bring up a Ghaeldanin red from the cellar?
Jhonas: Yes, my lady.
Moiraine: And I need a dress ordered from--
Anvaere: It's been decades, Moiraine! Sit. Have some tea.
Moiraine: Perhaps lunch. There's someone I need to meet this morning.

Moiraine briskly walks off.

In the Foregate, Rand helps clean up from the fire. He throws burnt wood into a wheelbarrel and shovels up the ash.

Selene: If you rebuild my inn for me, I can't charge you room and board anymore.
Rand: It's the least I can do. I'm so sorry.
Selene: It's not your fault. I didn't snuff the candles before bed. Maybe it's for the best. I hired some men to rebuild this floor, but it'll take them a week. Which means I have a chance to get away for the first time in a long time.
Rand: Where?
Selene: My family have a cabin up near Kinslayer's Dagger. I used to go there all the time as a girl. But after I took over the inn... You want to come?
Rand: Selene, I can't. Sorry.
Selene: You say that one more time and it's going to lose all meaning.
Rand: I'm not good company right now. For anyone.
Selene: Well, the fire drove off all the other tenants. You'll have the whole place to yourself. If you do really want to be alone that is.

Nynaeve sits in bed in her new room. She wears the dress of an Accepted with the sleeves banded in the colors of the Ajahs, and she stills wears her Wisdom's belt. The last words she had with her daughter in the Arches replay in her mind.

Nynaeve (Arches): Come on, sweetheart, we have to go.
Elnore Jr. (Arches): I'm scared.

A knock at the door brings Nynaeve back to the present. She walks to the door, pauses, then puts on her Great Serpent ring. She opens the door and Egwene is there with a plate.

Egwene: Saved you some honeycakes.
Nynaeve: Thank you.
Egwene: How are you doing?
Nynaeve: I didn't sleep.
Egwene: I wouldn't, either, I suppose. How does it feel?
Nynaeve: Um... I should go.
Egwene: Of course, I... I won't keep you. I'm here if you need anything.

Egwene hugs her, but Nynaeve is slow to return it.

Egwene: It's so good to have you back. It's all right now. It wasn't real. None of it was real.

Arafel[]

At the home of Alanna's extended family in Arafel. Children play at sword-fighting with Maksim and Ihvon using sticks. Alanna laughs and prepares the meal with the adults. Lan looks on fondly. The playing ends and the children beg Maksim to please keep playing.

Maksim: You know I want to, but it's Ihvon you have to convince.
children: Please? Please? Please?
Ihvon: After I eat, after I eat.

The adults sit together at a table covered in food. Lan and Ihvon join them. Alanna brings over a large bowl and addresses the table, but mainly looks at two women -- her sisters.

Alanna: If anyone says anything about the salt, I'll set you on fire.

She offers some to Lan.

Lan: I'm fine, thank you.
Alanna: You heard what I said about fire?
Lan: I'm still full from breakfast.
Alanna: It was two hours ago, at least.

She passes the bowl to her cousins.

Alanna: What are you two smirking about?
Cousin: It's been a while since you brought a new man home, huh?
Cousin: We thought maybe you were slowing down in your old age.

Alanna gasps and laughs and her sisters smile.

Cousin: Where does the third one go now?

They all laugh. Alanna playfully shrugs at the suggestion.

Later, Lan urinates at a tree. Alanna walks up behind him.

Lan: Ihvon and Maksim busy? One of them always checks on me when I step away.
Alanna: How does it usually go?
Lan: Well, they open with a joke. Maksim, at my age. Ihvon, at my hair. Then... a warm memory. Something worth living for. And at that point--
Alanna: So we're going to skip all of that. I don't think you're gonna kill yourself. Your bond wasn't ripped from you. She took it. So have you decided what you're going to do now?
Lan: Have I worn out my welcome?
Alanna: The three of us, we are going back to the Tower tomorrow. Will you come with us?
Lan: I don't know.
Alanna: Nynaeve is going into the Arches. The fastest anyone's done since Cadsuane Sedai. I suspect it's only a matter of time until she's looking for a Warder herself.
Lan: I'm not looking to repeat my failures.
Alanna: I wish you could've known Moiraine before.
Lan: Before what?
Alanna: Something happened to her. About 20 years ago now. A year or two before she bonded you. One day she was simply... changed. The way water becomes ice, and you look at it and wonder how it was ever water before.
Lan: Was she happier, then?
Alanna: I don't know. I don't know if she's ever been happy.

Cairhien[]

Moiraine looks through her old room. A dollhouse. She pulls dusty cloths off the furniture. Old books. A music box. A box of cigarillos. She pulls cloth from a mirror and looks at herself in her new Cairhien-style dress. As she walks away, she glances at the wall and does a double-take. There's a painting of Moiraine and a young child, her younger sister. She smiles at it.

Moiraine leaves her room and sees Anvaere speaking with Jhonas. Moiraine takes the Ghealdanin red from the table and leaves without a word.

At the sanitarium, Moiraine walks with Rand's manager Celestin.

Moiraine: And the redheaded boy, he comes every day?
Celestin: Rand?
Moiraine: Indeed.
Celestin: Rand hasn't shown up to work today.
Moiraine: Huh. You don't know where he lives?
Celestin: Is he in some kind of trouble, my lady?
Moiraine: I'd like some time alone with your ward. You know the one.

Celestin nods to the guard at the garden door. He opens the door for her, and she walks through into the garden. She finds Logain Ablar sitting, and he laughs humorlessly when he sees her.

Logain: I should kill you where you stand.
Moiraine: You tried that once. So how are they treating you?
Logain: Like a butterfly without wings.
Moiraine: And your mind?
Logain: You're the reason I'm here instead of a cell in the White Tower.
Moiraine: My Yellow sisters wanted to study you. As did the Browns, and I doubt you would've enjoyed, either.

Moiraine pours a cup of the Ghealdanin Red wine.

Logain: I doubt my enjoyment means all that much to you.
Moiraine: Have you started training him yet? Rand al'Thor.
Logain: You sent him here, too?
Moiraine: Where is he staying?

Moiraine holds up a cup of the wine offering it to Logain. Logain approaches her.

Logain: You took everything from me. Everything. Do you really think I'll dance on your strings for a bottle of wine?

Logain knocks the cup from her hand.

Moiraine: No. I know what you really want. What all those cut off from the One Power desire most of all.

Moiraine pulls out her dagger. Logain looks at it hungrily. He steps toward it and Moiraine steps back, keeping it out of reach.

Moiraine: You help me. And I'll help you. Where's he staying?
Logain: He's staying at an inn. In the Foregate. The Crescent.
Moiraine: And?
Logain: The boy has as much power as I did. But he fears it. Hates it, so he cannot control it.
Moiraine: You will teach him everything you know about channeling. Everything. However long it takes. And at the end, if I'm satisfied with his progress... I'll leave the knife with you.

Moiraine sheaths the dagger and leaves.

Egwene and Elayne mop a stone hallway.

Egwene: Something's different between us since she came back.
Elayne: She's an Accepted now.
Egwene: It's not that. Maybe a little that. But no matter how much I want to help, I can't seem to say or do the right thing.
Elayne: Then stop trying. You don't even know what happened to her in there. Why do you feel like you have to fix it?
Egwene: 'Cause I'm her friend. She was there for me last year when I lost... someone I love more than anything. And I only got through it because I had her to hold me up. Even though she was hurting, too. And I want to be... I should be the same for her. Like I used to be. But ever since I came here to this Tower, I just feel... smaller and smaller.

Elsewhere, Nynaeve walks through the White Tower halls. Novices bow to her, and Nynaeve looks uncomfortable. She arrives at the sandpit where the Warders train. A young man stops his training when he sees her.

Warder: You must be Nynaeve al'Meara, aren't you?
Nynaeve: I'm just looking for Maksim and Ihvon.

Liandrin walks by, but at seeing Nynaeve, she stops and steps back behind a wall to watch.

Warder: They're away with Alanna Sedai, but I can train with you if you want.

Nynaeve shakes her head and turns to leave.

Warder: Did you really channel in the Arches? I'm surprised you don't have all the Ajahs following you around. I mean, you have years to choose, I just... I just hope it's not Red.

Nynaeve gives him a stern look and he backs away to resume training. Liandrin watches Nynaeve walk away. Another Red sister approaches Liandrin and hands her a letter. Liandrin reads it and looks troubled.

Timestamp: 00:18:50

Leane works in her study. Liandrin enters.

Liandrin: The western shore is under attack and you're not sending any sisters to deal with it.
Leane: The west is always under attack, usually from itself. And the Tower has sent sisters to investigate.
Liandrin: When did they last send a report?

Leane doesn't answer her and focuses on her work.

Liandrin: Is the Amyrlin aware?
Leane: Of course.
Liandrin: When did you last speak with her?
Leane: The Keeper rules the Tower when the Amyrlin is away. So I speak with the Amyrlin every time I open my mouth.
Liandrin: Oh.

Liandrin begins to leave.

Liandrin: You know, if she falls... you'll fall with her.

Liandrin chuckles and leaves.

Wolves run through a forest. Perrin and Elyas walk after them on a forest road.

Perrin: Look, we haven't seen any sign of the caravan for hours now. I need to find my friends. Are you sure we're even going the right way?
Elyas: Wolves don't get lost.
Perrin: You're the one leading us, not them.
Elyas: Look at me, boy. I am them. So are you.
Perrin: What are we?
Elyas: Wolfbrother, they call us.
Perrin: What does that mean?
Elyas: Exactly what it sounds like.
Perrin: Are they all wolfbrothers? Am I going to change into--?
Elyas: Don't be stupid.
Perrin: How did you find me?

They pause at the vision of a buck running through the air before them. Perrin's eyes turn golden at the sight.

Elyas: It's our language. One of our scouts spotted a buck. Sent that vision to lead us to it.
Perrin: How does it work?
Elyas: Instinct. You'll learn what they mean, how to send them.
Perrin: Did the wolves warn you those warriors were coming for us? Is that why you didn't stay in the village? You could have warned us. You could have helped.
Elyas: Are you in chains? Time to eat.

Later, the wolves eat at the carcas of the buck. Elyas eats a chunk of raw meat. Perrin cooks his portion over a fire. The wolf who has been walking with them sits at Perrin's side.

Elyas: You'll lose the taste for cooked flesh soon enough.

The wolf looks over at Perrin. Elyas indicates him.

Elyas: He likes you.
Perrin: What's his name?
Elyas: He'll show you when he's ready. We've had our eye on you for a long time. You're lucky we were there to save you and that girl from the Whitecloaks.

(Note: This is a reference to the events of season 1 episode 5.)

Perrin: That was you? How?
Elyas: You've been sending us images for months now.

The wolf whimpers.

Elyas: He lost his mate, too. He mourns her still.

Perrin gives Elyas a questioning look.

Elyas: We all see her when you sleep.
Perrin: Why did you wait so long to come to me? If you've been following me for months.
Elyas: We don't go near women who can channel.
Perrin: Why not?
Elyas: Aes Sedai don't trust what they don't understand. Neither does any other human.

A vision appears before Perrin of a wolf playfully hopping up into the air. Perrin smiles at it. Elyas seems to not see it. Perrin looks at the wolf sitting next to him -- the wolf in the vision.

Perrin: Hopper. That's his name.
Elyas: Close enough.

Lan reads the poem he took from Moiraine. He puts it away as Maksim arrives.

Maksim: They've already started making dinner. Help me with the water?

Outside at a well, Lan pulls up a bucket of water.

Lan: How much water can they need for bread?
Maksim: You're doing really well. You know that, right? Usually, the first few weeks after the bond's been broken...

Maksim gets a distant look.

Maksim: Well... I don't need to tell you.
Lan: Well, I've had my share of practice without it. [sighs] Moiraine has left the bond masked for... the last six months or so.
Maksim: I thought I was the only Warder who could go that long. When Alanna first bonded me, it was miserable for everyone. [chuckles softly] I didn't like having an audience in my head, and she didn't like the show. So, the three of us talked it through, and we decided that she would mask her bond with me. Except in battle. And bed.
Lan: Does the Tower know about this?
Maksim: [nods] Have you ever known a marriage that is exactly the same as another? I know the others will tell you you can't go back to Moiraine. But I'm proof that you can. If you want to.

Moiraine stands in the foregate before the burned ruins of The Crescent Inn. She approaches the guards at the gate and speaks to one - Asan Sandair.

Moiraine: The Crescent Inn burned down. Do you know why?
Sandair: Things burn in the Foregate all the time, my lady. Shame it didn't take the buildings around.
Moiraine: There was a boy staying there. Red hair. I know that gets attention here at least. You would have seen him every day come through these gates for work.
Sandair: What about him?
Moiraine: Do you know where he is now?

The Sandair shrugs. Moiraine walks back into the inner city.

Kinslayer's Dagger[]

Timestamp: 00:27:25

As Rand and Selene walk up Kinslayer's Dagger, they pause on the side of a cliff, looking out.

Rand: This is... incredible. Did your family build their cabin?
Selene: [sighs softly] I was lying. I never used to come up here as a kid. I used to come with a man. The one before you.
Rand: Well, you don't have to explain. We promised-- no pasts.
Selene: Easy for you, since you're too young to have one.
Rand: [chuckles softly] You'd be surprised.
Selene: He was the first man I ever loved. The only, actually. Powerful. Confident. [chuckles softly] Arrogant, really. With eyes that could fix everything in its place.
Rand: Sounds a bit boring.
Selene: We used to get away as much as we could. We were always better when we were alone, without the world pulling us in every direction. We used to joke about never coming back down. But we always did.

Selene leans against his chest.

Rand: I grew up somewhere like this. My friends, they used to dream of cities and... traveling. But not me. Up here, the world looks like it still fits together. I can believe it's not broken.
Selene: You want to go back there?
Rand: The Wheel never gives anyone what they want. Least of all me. [scoffs softly]
Selene: No one and nothing ever gives you what you want. If you want something, you have to take it.

They kiss.

In an inn, Mat rolls dice with Min, and he loses.

Min: Ooh.
Mat: Right. Hey, mate! Same again.
Min: How are you paying for those? I've got all your money.
Mat: No. You can't win all night.
Min: Says the man who can't see the future.
Mat: No, you said you can only see people's futures. Right. Well, since you are rolling in it and we've been riding all day, why don't you get us a room? I am tired. I can't move.
Min: I've heard that before. How about I'll get us another round and rooms? Plural.

Min gets up and goes to the barkeep. She puts a lot of coin on the table.

Barkeep: You didn't drink that much.
Min: He will in a couple of hours. Just needs a helping hand.
Barkeep: Assume you'll be needing a room?
Min: The attic. There should be someone meeting me there. Have they arrived yet?
Barkeep: No, not yet. Who are you meeting?
Min: I'm not entirely sure. But send them up when they get here. They'll be asking for the same room.

The barkeep nods. Min brings two drinks back to the table with Mat.

Liandrin enters the room of the Arches, where Nynaeve is sitting looking up at them.

Liandrin: Most Aes Sedai refuse to set foot in this room ever again.
Nynaeve: Was any of it real?
Liandrin: The pain. But even that fades. In time. Who did you lose inside?
Nynaeve: My daughter.
Liandrin: I'm sorry.
Nynaeve: I'm supposed to just forget her and everything that happened in there. I was in there for years. [shudders] And it's fading, but I-I still remember it. I...
Liandrin: I've kept my son a secret for... 80 years now, 90? I told myself it was for his own protection. Stop my enemies from hurting him to get to me. The Three Oaths bind us to speak the truth to others, not ourselves. I could've hidden him anywhere, probably a thousand safer places, but I kept him here in Tar Valon. I kept him here for me. Because I was afraid. I couldn't risk losing the only thing in this world that's ever been truly mine. Men who can... channel are cursed by the Dark, because... of the madness. Because they eventually kill the people they love the most. But the truth is, we Aes Sedai... are cursed, too. The One Power slows down our aging, and... we have to sit and watch the people we love pass by instead, helpless to stop it.
Nynaeve: I can see why they don't let you teach novices.
Liandrin: You want to know how we... rule this world without collapsing from the pain and loss? You find a piece of this world that belongs to you and you... hold on to it. And then... when it's finally gone, you-you find another.
Nynaeve: Have you? Found another?
Liandrin: [chuckles softly] I'm going to tell you something now, but I want you to give me your word... you won't do anything rash. The Tower has learned of some kind of invasion in the west. Nobody here cares. Especially since our spies report they haven't taken many prisoners. But in one of the reports, they did capture something unusual. A group of Shienaran soldiers a long way from home. Traveling with an Ogier. And a blacksmith from the Two Rivers.

Ihvon, Lan, and Maksim sit quietly in meditation. Maksim fidgets. Then finally opens his eyes, looks at the other two, and quietly gets up and leaves.

Lan: He lasted ten minutes this time. I think we're wearing him down.
Ihvon: Mm. Pretty soon, he'll be old and wise like us.
Lan: Old, yes. He's still working on that wisdom.
Ihvon: It's something she said. You keep saying it to yourself over and over. A thousand cuts for her one. People don't understand that we quiet ones are quiet because the conversation's always playing out in our own heads.
Lan: She said that, all these years... she never considered me an equal.
Ihvon: [snorts] Of course not. We are not their equals, Lan. We're not supposed to be. An Aes Sedai can call down lightning, raise mountains. The rest of the world only sees their power. We see their weakness. We remind them that they are not gods.
Lan: I wouldn't think that Alanna needed a reminder.
Ihvon: Yeah, well, she knows we want the same thing as her.
Lan: What's that?
Ihvon: The triumph of the Light over the Dark. And dessert after.
Lan: [chuckles softly]
Ihvon: What about Moiraine? What does she want?
Lan: [sighs] Maybe that's the problem. I don't think I know anymore.

Maksim leads Alanna into a room and shows her the poem Lan took from Moiraine. As she reads, Ishamael's voice whispers in the Old Tongue. These are his words from the opening scene.

Cairhien[]

Nighttime. Moiraine returns to her sister's house. She nearly knocks on her sister's door but returns to her own room instead -- and finds Anvaere sitting there, waiting for her.

Anvaere: You'll pardon the intrusion, but I didn't want to miss you. Please, sit.
Moiraine: Anvaere. I've had a long day. I...
Anvaere: This is not what a woman should have to do to talk to the sister she spent half her life idolizing.
Moiraine: If you want me to apologize for leaving, I won't. An Aes Sedai cannot lie.
Anvaere: No, no, of course not. In truth, you did nothing I wouldn't have, if I could've channeled. Light knows I tried, on nights when our family's future looked dim. After Uncle ruined us. After you left. But Father always held out hope that one day you'd return and fix it all. You were his shining star. Shooting star, as it turned out, never to return once you left our sky.
Moiraine: I... I would have come back if I could...
Anvaere: Spare me the false penitence. You had your work, and I had mine. Less important, certainly, but no less demanding. Unless the Tower also taught you how to smile after someone spits in your eye? Or how to beg a neighbor's housemaid for a party's leftovers? But I got on with my work, just as you did with yours. Now my son is going to marry the queen, and nobody will ever spit on House Damodred again.
Moiraine: You've done well, little sister. Better than I would have done with the hand you were dealt.
Anvaere: Thank you, Moiraine. But somehow, finally, I don't care what you think. I'm not here for your approval. I'm here because you will not endanger what I've worked all my life to build. This is not your house. This is not your city. And I'm not your little sister anymore. All the eyes and ears you had here... they're mine now. The head of the sanitarium, Celestin. The guard you hailed at the gate, Sandair. If you want to know where that redheaded boy in the inn went... you're going to have to ask me very nicely over tea.

Anvaere pours a cup of tea and offers it to Moiraine, who looks amused.

Egwene and Elayne sit in Elayne's room, drinking and laughing together.

Egwene: It must be nice for you, in a way. To know what you're going to be someday.
Elayne: You know, the only thing I ever wonder about is what it must be like to get to choose your own fate.
Egwene: [chuckles] Want to trade?
Elayne: No.

They laugh. The door suddenly opens.

Nynaeve: I've been looking for you everywhere. Give us a moment.
Elayne: This is my room.

Nynaeve stares, sternly waiting.

Elayne: And my glass I need to wash.

Elayne leaves. Egwene gets up.

Egwene: I, uh, I was just coming to find you...
Nynaeve: Perrin and Loial have been captured. I'm going to Falme to free them.
Egwene: Falme? That's on the other side of the world.
Nynaeve: I just came to tell you that I'm leaving. You don't have to come. I'm an Accepted, I can leave the Tower whenever I want. But if they catch you, they'll expel you.
Egwene: You think I care about that? If our friends are in trouble, why would you think I'd ever stay here? You don't get it at all, do you? Why I've tried so hard here? If I'd have been ready at the Eye of the World... I could've fought alongside Rand. And maybe he would've made it back. I'm never gonna fail any of you like that ever again.
Nynaeve: I know a safe way out.

They leave together.

Nynaeve leads Egwene through the secret passage (discovered in episode 202).

Egwene: Are Perrin and Loial all right?
Nynaeve: I don't know.
Egwene: Well, who took them?
Nynaeve: Invaders from the west is all I heard. It's a long ride to Falme. We'll have some time to come up with a plan.

They hear something, and turn back to see Elayne come up behind them.

Elayne: Yes, I'm following you, obviously. To find out why you're sneaking out of the Tower.
Nynaeve: Go back right now and keep your mouth shut or...
Elayne: Or you'll what? Egwene wouldn't hurt me. And you can't even embrace the Source.

From the other end of the passage, Liandrin emerges.

Nynaeve: Liandrin Sedai. I brought them here. They didn't do anything wrong. You can blame me.
Liandrin: [to Elayne] You are a complication. [to Nynaeve] I am sorry for this.

Liandrin blasts them with the One Power, knocking them out.

Min's dream[]

Timestamp: 00:44:48

Min sleeps in the attic room of the inn, when suddenly her two aunts pull her from bed.

Min's Aunt: What are you doing in bed?
Min's Aunt: Get up! Come on then!
Min's Aunt: Get up! Time to work!
Min's Aunt: The customers are waiting!
Min: This isn't happening. Auntie. I escaped.

The sit her in a chair at a table with a crystal ball.

Min's Aunt: No one escapes their fate.
Min's Aunt: You know that better than anyone.

The aunts leave. There's a line of people waiting, and one of the aunts pushes forward the woman at the start of the line. She sits at the table across from Min.

Burned woman: Will we be happy together?

Min sees a vision of the woman horribly burned on one side of her face. The woman leaves and a young boy sits across from Min.

Child: What will I be when I grow older?

Min sees a vision of the child with death-like imagery. The visions of the boy and the woman screaming are overwhelming.

Min: No! No!

A man steps forward. Min squeezes her eyes shut, blocking out the visions, but the screaming continues. The screams suddenly stop.

Ishamael: Open your eyes. What do you see?

Min hesitantly opens her eyes. The people are gone. The room is quiet. She looks at the man and there are no visions.

Ishamael: It's wonderful, isn't it? Seeing nothing. No longer being a carnival attraction.
Min: Who are you?
Ishamael: I've got so many names in this Age. Father of Lies. Betrayer of Hope. Forsaken.
Min: No, no, Liandrin didn't tell me...
Ishamael: She promised to take away your visions. Do you really think an Aes Sedai could do that? For some things, the Dark is the only place to turn.
Min: The deal's off. I won't... I won't help you hurt anyone.
Ishamael: You will.
Min: I won't let you hurt Mat.
Ishamael: [chuckles softly] You might. You came here to get instructions for where you're to take him next. You want me to take away your curse? Bring him to Cairhien.
Min: [sobbing softly] What's in Cairhien?

Ishamael smiles.

Rand and Selene sleep outside near a waning fire. Rand wakes. He gets up, takes out his sword, and cautiously steps away. Behind him, a Fade slips from the shadows.

Selene: Rand!

Rand turns as the Fade is about to attack and fights him. The Fade knocks the blade from his hands.

Rand: Stay behind me.

Rand channels, setting the Fade on fire. Selene steps away.

Ishamael: I'm sorry.
Selene: What did you do?
Rand: I'm sorry!
Selene: What did you just do?
Rand: I should've told you, I...
Selene: Did you...?
Rand: I-I thought I could stop it.
Selene: Did you just channel?
Rand: I should've told you.
Selene: The fire at my inn?
Rand: No, no, that was an accident. It was an accident.
Selene: What kind of an accident?
Rand: I haven't gone mad. I haven't gone mad. And y-you know that. You know me, right?

Rand steps forward and reaches for her. Selene gasps and steps back. Rand backs away and nods.

Rand: I understand. I'm going to leave now. Thank you... for everything. I just wish we... Doesn't matter.
Selene: Where will you go?
Rand: They say when men go mad... they kill the people they love first. So I'll go as far away as I can.
Selene: Are you saying you love me? Why didn't you tell me you can channel?
Rand: You are the first woman who's ever seen me as a man. I didn't want you to see me as a monster.
Selene: You're not. What you did, it's just part of your nature. You shouldn't hide it. I did that once. Turned my soul to him like a mirror, reflecting only what he wanted to see. Leaving the rest of me in darkness. But one day he looked too long. Too carefully. You need to give someone the chance to love all of you. They might not. But you have to give them the chance.
Rand: I don't know how much time we have. Until I'm...
Selene: The same as everyone else. Never enough.

Rand leans close. Selene takes his hand and guides him to the cabin.

Ending[]

In Arafel, Ihvon joins Alanna and Maksim outside.

Alanna: Sure he's asleep?
Ihvon: Yeah. What did you find?
Alanna: A prophecy in the Old Tongue.

Alanna hands the prophecy to Ihvon.

Alanna: Lan must not know who it's about.
Maksim: Lanfear. The Forsaken. Her Seal is broken. She's in our world again.
Ihvon: [translating] Daughter of the Night. She walks again. The ancient war, she yet fights. Her new lover she seeks, who shall serve her and die, yet serve still.

At the cabin on Kinslayer's Dagger, Selene tears fabric and ties Rand to the bed.

Rand: Uh, Selene?
Ihvon: [translating] Who shall stand against her coming?

Selene kisses Rand.

Ihvon: [translating] The Shining Walls shall kneel. Blood feeds blood. Blood calls blood.
Ishamael (voice): Blood is, blood was...

Selene leans down and whispers into Rand's ear.

Selene: There's something you should know, Rand.
Ishamael (voice): ...and blood shall ever be.
Selene: I'm a monster, too.

As Selene leans back, rising up, it's visually cut with the woman from the opening rising up, covered in blood. Selene is this woman -- Lanfear.

Rand: What do you mean?

The air around Selene/Lanfear wavers, like weaves of the One Power that Rand can't quite see.

Rand: [whispers] What's happening? [forcefully] What's happening?

A sword pierces through Selene/Lanfear's chest from behind. Moiraine appears behind her and slashes her throat. Blood spatters over Rand's face and chest. Rand gasps. Moiraine cuts the bonds tying him down.

Moiraine: Now, hurry, we don't have much time.
Rand: You killed her.

Furious, Rand channels. A blast of air forces Moiraine back against a wall. Rand gets up and grabs Moiraine by the neck.

Rand: You killed her.
Moiraine: I haven't. I couldn't. Because that is Lanfear, Daughter of the Night, the most dangerous of the Forsaken.
Rand: Her name is Selene. She owns an inn in the Foregate.
Moiraine: She's been lying to you. Which I never can.

Rand releases Moiraine and the flows of the One Power recede.

Moiraine: Now we need to run. Hurry!

Moiraine runs to the door. Rand grabs his sword.

Moiraine: Hurry!

As they run, the camera pans down to focus on Selene/Lanfear, dead on the ground in a pool of blood. Dark specks waft through the whites of her eyes. She blinks and takes a breath.
