Da'covale (Old Tongue for person who is property) is the Seanchan term for enslaved people. The term is used for the many non-channelers who are enslaved by the Seanchan, who are distinct from the channeler damane.

Overview[]

The da'covale mainly perform the role of servants in the households of wealthy masters, such as the Blood. They can be presented to people as gifts.

Non-channeler opponents who have been defeated by the Seanchan in battle may be reduced to da'covale, even if they choose to swear oaths of allegiance to the empire upon their defeat. This appears to be mostly a fate reserved for enemy warriors, with civilians of occupied territories largely remaining free people.

The Seanchan appear to entirely trust da'covale from their lands, as their society has long been extremely hierarchical. This even extends to assuming that newly enslaved da'covale from the Westlands will have respect for their authority; Loial and Ingtar Shinowa note that it is very easy for them to access High Lord Turak's collection of treasured.

They wear a distinct type of dress. Da'covale can be identified by light green and white robes, as well as extensive facial jewelry.

History[]

Season 2[]

Loial and Ingtar Shinowa are enslaved by High Lady Suroth when they surrender to her at Atuan's Mill. They are presented to High Lord Turak as gifts upon her return to Falme.[1]

High Lady Suroth demands that Loial use his Treesinging ability to please other members of the Blood at Turak's court. Loial and Ingtar also plan to steal the Horn of Valere, which is now in Turak's possession. They note that there is barely anything to stop them from doing so, with far more guards posted outside the damane kennels.<ref name="EyesWithoutPity">The Wheel of Time, season 2 episode 6: Eyes Without Pity.<ref>
