Cenn Buie is a character in The Wheel of Time television series portrayed by David Sterne. He is a grumpy man from Emond's Field.

History[]

Early life[]

Cenn Buie was born and raised in the Two Rivers.

Season 1[]

Cenn Buie is in the Winespring Inn on Winternight drinking and laughing with the other patrons. When the Aes Sedai, Moiraine Damodred, enters the inn with her Warder, Lan Mandragoran, Cenn Buie and the rest of the patrons go silent at seeing the strangers in the Two Rivers.[1]

When the Trollocs attack during Bel Tine the following night, Cenn is injured. Nynaeve and Egwene pull him away from the fighting and treat his injuries. Nynaeve assures Cenn that they got the bleeding to stop, but it's not enough and Cenn dies.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The character is not named in the episode or in the credits. The character's name is known because on June 24, 2020, the show's official Twitter account announced that actor David Sterne would portray Cenn Buie.[2]
  • In the virtual world on Gather, Cenn Buie's house has a thatched roof, and he complains about Emond's Field having tiled roofs. This is a joke about Emond's Field having thatched roofs in the book series, and tiled roofs in the television series.
  • In November 2023, a leaked audition script led to speculation that the character Cenn Buie might be introduced as a new character in season 3, and that the the character "annoying old man" portrayed by David Sterne was no longer intended to be Cenn Buie.[3]

Changes from the book series[]

Cenn Buie is based on the character of the same name Booklink (book spoilers!) from the book series.

  • Death - In the books, Cenn Buie survives the Trolloc attack on the Two Rivers.
  • Occupation - In the books, Cenn Buie was a thatcher, and the Two Rivers buildings all had thatched roofs. In the TV series, Cenn Buie's occupation is not confirmed, but since the Two Rivers buildings have shingled roofs, he is most likely not a thatcher.
