The Breaking of the World was a catastrophic time period that ended the Age of Legends, and led to the beginning of the Third Age of the Wheel of Time.
History[]
At the end of the Age of Legends, a group of male Aes Sedai led by Lews Therin Telamon attempted to cage the Dark One forever. While they were able to seal the Dark One away, the Dark One was able to corrupt the One Power.
As a result, all male channelers began to go mad, leading to the catastrophic Breaking of the World. Civilization collapsed entirely, and the land was completely reformed. The seas boiled, mountains were swallowed up, and cities burned. Dragonmount was one of the new landforms created during the Breaking.[1]
The end of the Breaking of the World marked a new Age in the Wheel of Time, the Third Age.[2] The women of the Aes Sedai were left to pick up the pieces. Above all else, they remembered Lews Therin as the man who broke the world.[1]
