The Black Ajah is a secret Aes Sedai Ajah that serves the Shadow. Although the existence of a Darkfriend Ajah has been denied by the White Tower, the group does truly exist.

This article contains spoilers for events throughout the entire series and the identities of all Aes Sedai of the Black Ajah. Do not read any further if you wish to avoid any spoilers about which Aes Sedai are Black Ajah.

Overview

Very little is known about how the Black Ajah operates, but their name seems to suggest an organization structure more like the other Ajahs of the Aes Sedai instead of simply being Aes Sedai who happen to be Darkfriends. What is known about the Black Ajah is that all members must publicly pose as members of the other Ajahs.

It appears that the Black Ajah may be free of the Three Oaths. Liandrin seemed to outright lie to Mat by stating that Perrin had never mentioned him in his letters. She also seriously attacked Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne to an extent that would appear to violate the third oath about using the One Power as a weapon.
