The Black Ajah is a secret Aes Sedai Ajah that serves the Shadow. Although the existence of a Darkfriend Ajah has been denied by the White Tower, the group does truly exist.[1][2]
Overview[]
Very little is known about how the Black Ajah operates, but their name seems to suggest an organization structure more like the other Ajahs of the Aes Sedai instead of simply being Aes Sedai who happen to be Darkfriends.[3] What is known about the Black Ajah is that all members must publicly pose as members of the other Ajahs.[4]
It appears that the Black Ajah may be free of the Three Oaths. Liandrin seemed to outright lie to Mat by stating that Perrin had never mentioned him in his letters.[3] She also seriously attacked Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne to an extent that would appear to violate the third oath about using the One Power as a weapon.[5]

Mm-hmm.- Yasicca
But here... it looks as if her hand was moving more slowly. [gasps] Or perhaps it was someone trying to mimic her handwriting?- Verin
No, Sheriam remembered making the notation herself.- Yasicca
Mm.- Verin
Do you think it might look like this... if a weave of Compulsion was being used?- Yasicca
- — Season 2 episode 5 Damane
Compulsion? That would break the Three Oaths. It would mean that someone in the Tower has sworn to the Dark. That... Black Ajah really exists.
Changes from the book series[]
The Black Ajah is adapted from the secret Ajah of the same name (book spoilers!) from the book series.
