Bela is a character in The Wheel of Time television series. She is a horse owned by Tam al'Thor, although she is later ridden by Egwene al'Vere after she leaves the Two Rivers.[1]
History[]
Season 1[]
As Tam and Rand go to town the day before Bel Tine, Bela pulls the cart of apple brandy.[2] She returns to the al'Thor farm with them the next day. In the evening, she is restless and whinnying in the stable, and then abruptly goes quiet, which alerts Tam and Rand that something is unusual -- and then they are attacked by a trolloc. Tam is injured in the attack, and Rand brings Tam back to the village on Bela's back to get him help.[3] Bela leaves the Two Rivers that day, ridden by Egwene.[1]
As the group goes to enter Shadar Logoth, Bela and the other horses are resistant to proceeding. Egwene says to her, "Bela, what's wrong?" After the shadows of Shadar Logoth attack one of the horses, the other horses bolted including Bela. It's unknown if Bela got out of the city.[1]

Trivia[]
- Bela is portrayed by two or more horses,[5] with Judkins saying they would do "some horse make-up on a team of Bela lookalikes."[6] Different horses are used for pulling a cart than for riding.[7] One of Bela's actors is a male horse named Archie.[8]
- In the virtual world on Gather, Bela will say "Can I deny the rumors? Neigh!" after she is approached. This is a reference to the joke theory that Bela is the Creator.
