Basan is a character introduced in season 2 of the The Wheel of Time television series. He is portrayed by Bentley Kalu.
Basan is the Warder of Ryma. Both of them are hiding from the Seanchan in Falme.
History[]
Season 2[]
Basan seizes Nynaeve al'Meara and Elayne Trakand on the streets of Falme. When they wake up at the residence where Basan and Ryma are staying, the Aes Sedai explains that she is of the Yellow Ajah, and that they took the two White Tower initiates as the Seanchan are looking everywhere for them.[1]
When the Seanchan come to find a woman who can channel, Basan and Ryma fight them in the street, keeping Nynaeve and Elayne hidden. Ryma is limited by the Three Oaths, and is able to retaliate against the sul'dam when Basan is threatened. One sul'dam tries to attack Basan, and Ryma blocks the attack and burns the sul'dam. After Ryma takes an arrow to her shoulder, she begs Basan to kill her so that she will not be captured. Reluctantly, Basan raises his sword to do so, and is impaled by a projectile of the One Power, killing him. Ryma screams, and viciously attacks the sul'dam responsible, breaking all her bones. As Ryma weeps over Basan, she is collared.[2]

Basan is an adult man with dark brown skin, close-cropped black hair, and dark brown eyes. He wears a light shirt, grey-brown trousers, and brown leather forearm guards. Basan fights with a sword.

Changes from the book series[]
Basan is an original character in the TV series, but his name is reminiscent of two Warders from the books, Basan 
(book spoilers!) and Bassane (book spoilers!), neither of which are bonded to Ryma. It is unknown whether Ryma has a Warder in the book series.
