Season 2[]
While tracking Padan Fain and the Horn of Valere, the Shienarans stay at Atuan's Mill. While first going through town, Perrin comments on the smell of the lion fish being prepared by the water, and Missus Amudee tells Perrin that it tastes better than it smells. Perrin and the Shienarans stay at an inn in town, and that night they are dragged from their beds by the invading Seanchan army. In the morning, everyone in town is rounded up and High Lady Suroth arrives on a massive palanquin with her voice Alwhin and Ishamael at her side.[2] A damane, Miri, comes out and points to several young women that the Seanchan soldiers forcibly take away. Alwhin informs everyone that they must swear the oaths to the Seanchan empire. Uno Nomesta refuses to do so and the Seanchan kill him. Everyone else kneels and swears the oaths.[3]
Perrin departs the town, being taken away in a coach by the Seanchan, eventually joining up with Elyas Machera. However, he is later led back to Atuan's Mill, and finds that it has been captured by a company of Children of the Light. He finds Uno's body in a cage, and finds a living prisoner in the cages as well: Aviendha, an Aiel Maiden of the Spear. Although Perrin is treated somewhat warmly by Dain Bornhald, a Whitecloak at the town, he is shocked to see that Eamon Valda is also present there. Perrin chooses to free Aviendha, and the pair of them defeat an entire group of Whitecloaks before fleeing the town.
Meanwhile, Suroth is reprimanded by High Lord Turak for the invasion of Atuan's Mill when she returns to Falme, as Atuan's Mill was too distant for the Seanchan to reliably hold. She has her long nails cut to show her disgrace. It is revealed that Suroth only invaded Atuan's Mill at the behest of Ishamael, as she is a Darkfriend who has her own hidden interests that conflict with Seanchan leadership. An enslaved Loial and Ingtar have also been brought to Falme.[4]
