- This article is about the ancient group of channelers. For the present-day Aes Sedai, see Aes Sedai. For the track, see Aes Sedai (theme).
The Aes Sedai were a powerful group of channelers who lived in the Age of Legends. They are the precursors to the modern organization of the same name. Notably, the Aes Sedai in the Age of Legends included men, while the modern Aes Sedai are made up of exclusively women.[1]
History[]
In the Age of Legends, both men and women served as Aes Sedai.
Several extremely powerful Aes Sedai joined the Dark One as his Chosen, and served as commanders of the Shadow during the War of Power.[2] [3] In light of this great conflict between Light and Shadow, Lews Therin Telamon, known as the Dragon, led a group of male Aes Sedai in an attempt to cage the Dark One. However, when he failed, the Dark One was able to corrupt saidin. All male Aes Sedai turned mad, leading to the Breaking of the World, where civilization collapsed and lands were reformed. This led to the end of the Age of Legends, and the beginning of the Third Age.[1]
The Aes Sedai were reformed at the beginning of the Third Age as an exclusively female organization.
