An Accepted is a female channeler training in the White Tower to become an Aes Sedai.[1] They are the second level of initiates, and are raised from Novices, who are in their first level of training.
Overview[]
After usually years training as a novice, a woman may be raised to Accepted after completing the test with the Arches ter'angreal. At this level, she receives the recognizable Great Serpent ring, though with no gemstone.[2]
Training as an Accepted is far more advanced and specialized compared to the instruction Novices receive. They rely more on individual Aes Sedai as tutors, instead of regularly receiving classes in groups. There are some Aes Sedai who do not teach any Novices, but still teach Accepted. Accepted begin to learn considerably advanced weaves. Some also may begin lean towards a specific Ajah, or at least learn from each Ajah's more specialist knowledge. This can mean studying in the library with the Brown Ajah, learning Healing weaves with the Yellow Ajah, or focusing on diplomacy with the Gray Ajah.[3]
When an Accepted is ready, she may be raised to Aes Sedai if she passes an incredibly brutal test which involves maintaining perfect serenity and calm while channeling one hundred different weaves of the One Power.[4] However, some Accepted will fail, or may be considered too weak to even be considered to take the test. In this case, they will be put out of the Tower, but are allowed to retain their Great Serpent ring.[5]
