: Safe's not possible anymore.
: We were already running from the Forsaken.
: And now the Black Ajah.
: [light pulses]
: [Lanfear] These friends of his.
: They tie him to the boy he used to be, not the man he must become.
: [Siuan] Unless you plan to jeopardize the centuries-old alliance between Andor and the Tower, I expect to see you back in your novice whites tomorrow.
: You are Accepted of the White Tower.
: I'm an Accepted now. So you can't keep me here.
: You think I will hurt them…
: -[knife slashes] -…to get him to do what we want?
: [groans]
: -[knife slices] -[groans]
: Yes. That's the only thing I like about you.
: -I have to go. -I can't go with you.
: I'm staying.
: I'm sorry.
: This is my path, not yours.
: I told you, I'm not going anywhere.
: We sail for Tear at dawn.
Elayne: Andor will always be a friend to the Dragon Reborn.
: We're not going to Tear.
: I'm taking us to the last place the Forsaken would ever think to look for me.
: A place to find the army I need to fight the Shadow.
: We're going to the Aiel Waste.
: [bells tolling]
: [person sighs]
: I told you this day would come, Your Majesty.
: -[sighs] -[doors open]
: [uplifting music plays]
: [court members clamoring] Your Majesty.
: -Your Majesty. -Your Majesty.
: -Your Majesty. -Your Majesty.
: [child] Mama!
: [whispers] Are you going to wave?
: [song ends]
: Since Queen Mordrellen's death, our nation has suffered the great uncertainty of a Succession War, making enemies of friends, weakening our defenses.
: Many of you in this room were my rivals, and I yours.
: But that war is over now, because I won it.
: [inhales deeply]
: [queen] Swear yourselves to me, and nothing you have done will be held against you.
: My only goal now is to bring our great nation into a time of peace.
: [nobles muttering]
: I swear the fealty and soldiers of House Baryn to your throne, Queen Morgase of House Trakand.
: [nobles muttering]
: House Anshar and its armies swear themselves to you, my Queen.
: I, Nasina Caeren, swear the fealty of my soldiers and my house to you, Queen Morgase of House Trakand.
: All of your actions against me in the past are forgiven.
: [sighs]
: But I cannot see my daughter and our great nation suffer another Succession War.
: [nobles gasp, clamor]
: -[screams] -[grunts]
: Brother…
: -[screams] -[gasping]
: [gasping]
: [dramatic music plays]
: Long live House Trakand and the Lion Throne of Andor.
: Long live the queen.
: [nobles] Long live the queen!
: Long live the queen!
: Long live the queen!
: Long live the queen!
: Long live the queen!
: Long live the queen!
: Long live the queen!
: [people whispering]
Verin: We have to trust someone.
Leane: Trust?
: -Yes. -Trust? You saw how many of them.
: [Verin chuckling] You think you can do this alone?
: [trumpets playing royal march]
: [horses whinnying]
: Huh, Elayne.
: Uh, if I'm not mistaken, that is your mother's coronation song, is it not?
Elayne: It is, Verin Sedai.
: And do you know what in Light's name Queen Morgase is doing in Tar Valon?
Elayne: I have no idea.
: [music continues]
: -[court members whispering] -[music fades]
: [Morgase inhales deeply]
: [sighs]
: [sighs]
: -[court member coughs] -[consort sighs]
: [sighs]
: [staff bangs]
Leane: Attend you all! You come before the Watcher of the Seals, the Flame of Tar Valon, the Amyrlin Seat.
Leane: Lord Galad of House Trakand. Lord Gawyn of House Trakand, First Prince of the Sword. Lord… um… [sighs] Forgive me. Lord Gaebril. Prince Consort of the queen.
: Lord Gaebril. A pleasure as always.
: [chuckles]
Leane: Elaida Sedai of the Red Ajah, advisor to the queen.
: [court members whispering]
: Mother.
: Welcome home, Daughter.
Leane: By the Grace of the Light, Queen of Andor, Defender of the Realm, Protector of the People, High Seat of House Trakand, Queen Morgase.
Siuan: Queen Morgase. To what do we owe this honor?
Morgase: Where's my daughter?
Siuan: The novices are all well into their chores by this time of day.
Morgase: And what time of day are they kidnapped?
: [court members whispering]
: You swore to me when I sent my daughter to you, Siuan, that--
Siuan: Daughter. You forget yourself. While you wear that ring, while you stand in this hall, you will address me as befits the Amyrlin Seat.
Morgase: Forgive me, Mother. You have not had a child of your own, so perhaps you do not know the power of that word. What it means to go to sleep at night and wake in the morning wondering at your daughter's breath. If you did, you would know that I will not leave this tower until I have set eyes on Elayne and know everything that happened to her.
Siuan: Leaders and mothers are not so different, perhaps, in that we will both defend our own like a lionfish defends its den. Leane Sedai, please escort the queen's family to their quarters, and I will take Morgase to Elayne myself.
: [falcons calling]
: [uplifting music plays]
Aviendha: We're almost through the Spine of the World, but the pass is too far ahead. Aiel would make it before night on foot, but… we'll camp here.
: [uplifting music plays]
: [rumbling]
: -[electricity crackles] -[thunder rumbling]
Loial: A much better way to travel than all that channeling.
: [grunts]
Perrin: We're not the first to come this way.
: Two sets of tracks.
: [sniffs] A man and a woman.
: And it smells like ash.
: That's strange.
: Only Darkfriends dare brave the Ways alone, without an Ogier.
: [breathing heavily]
: We should've gone to a stedding first, Loial.
: No. The Longing takes… well, a very long time to do its work.
: What is this "Longing"?
: When Ogier are away from the stedding, we begin to suffer ill effects.
: Our health declines until, eventually…
: [breathes heavily]
: [inhales] But it is good to feel it.
: It is the remembrance in our bones of our home, of our ancestors.
: Of the things we shouldn't forget.
: [uplifting music plays]
: [chuckles] They told me you'd be in here.
: [both chuckling]
: [groans] Don't you have floors to scrub?
: -[chuckles] -It's good to see you too, idiot.
: -Gaebril. -Elayne. [chuckles]
: [sighs]
: -You look well. [chuckles] -[chuckles]
: Even if they do make you wear that wretched sack.
: -Galad. -Elayne. It is good to see you again.
: [kisses]
: I have worried much. We have all worried much.
: -[whispers] Where's Mother? -[Gaebril] With the Amyrlin.
: Best be prepared, though.
: She came here with a head full of steam.
Gawyn: I mean, you really gave us all a terrible fright.
: Mother was ready to tear the Tower down with her bare hands when we'd learned you'd gone missing.
: [chuckles] Well, I'm back in one piece, so there'll be no need for that.
Galad: We should have been here with you.
: I told Mother these Aes Sedai couldn't be trusted.
: If she'd just let us start our Warder training when you came here like we wanted…
: Morgase, let all of her ducklings out of her sight at once?
: -I think not. [chuckles] -[Elayne chuckles]
: I'm still not convinced these Warders have much to teach us that we don't already know.
: But it's true. We could've kept you out of trouble.
: Mother was always too soft on you at home.
: You know nothing of the world. It makes you vulnerable.
: [whispers] Has he gotten even more irritating since I left home?
: You have no idea.
: -[chuckles] -Well, you're here now.
: Perhaps Mother will let you stay, and your training can finally begin.
: [Galad] Hmm.
: -What? -Nothing.
: Has no one told you why we're here?
Ryma: Focus, sisters. I'll meld the flows.
: [high-pitched chiming]
: [Ryma breathing shakily]
Nynaeve: Anything, Ryma Sedai?
Ryma: The weave wouldn't hold. The mind is a slippery patient.
Nynaeve: There must be something else you can try.
Ryma: As you might guess, we've never seen someone with a problem quite like your friend's. And even if we had, there's almost nothing we can do for afflictions of the mind.
Nynaeve: What if it keeps getting worse?
Ryma: We'll keep him under observation. But healing him? I won't lie to you, Wisdom. I fear we may as well be trying to bring him back from the dead.
Siuan: I owe you an apology.
: I know Elayne's importance better than anyone.
: The alliance between Andor and the White Tower is the axis upon which peace in the Westlands exists.
: And Light knows there have been enough challenges to that peace as it is.
: I must admit, Siuan, if this is strategy, it's very disarming.
: We both know what's required of us in public.
: I mean it, Morgase.
: Sadly, this Tower is not immune to the changing tides which threaten to overturn us all.
: I guarantee Elayne is safer here than anywhere else in the world.
: [knocks on door]
Elayne: Mother.
: -And… Mother. [chuckles] -My girl.
: [sighs]
: I'll leave you two to catch up.
: [door closes]
Elayne: I've missed you, Mother.
: Come here.
: Let me have a look at you.
: [softly] I'm so glad you're safe.
: You look exactly as I did in my novice whites.
: [chuckles]
Morgase: So, show me your room.
Elayne: Um, well, it's a short tour.
Morgase: Bigger than I remember it.
Elayne: Oh, gosh, that's the first time anyone's accused this room of being big.
: [chuckles]
: How was your time with the Amyrlin?
Morgase: Interesting as ever. She's hiding something. As is everybody here. Including my own daughter. Won't you tell me what happened? Something has shaken everyone here to the core.
: We've been instructed not to tell anyone.
: -It's internal Tower business. -Fair enough.
: At least I know where I stand in the pecking order.
: -Mum, that's not… -No, no, no. It's all right.
: Of course you have to be a good little soldier while you're under Siuan's roof. I understand that.
: I can wait till tomorrow.
: What happens tomorrow?
: You will receive your honorary Great Serpent ring, we'll go home, and you'll tell me everything.
: [stammers] I've barely spent any time here.
: Oh, no, you've done marvelously well.
: Siuan tells me you're one of the most powerful novices she has.
: And to think of the awful ordeal you have survived, with no support from the Tower.
: I would've thought that you would be as anxious to leave here as I am to have you return safely home.
: I want to stay, Mother.
: I want to be an Aes Sedai.
: Oh, love.
: I wish I could give you all the things you want.
: Y-You've said yourself it… it would be a strategic advantage were I to be the first full Aes Sedai to hold the Lion Throne.
: Daughter.
: My only daughter.
: No matter how things seem here, no matter what strategic advantages I have mused upon in the past, your first duty is to Andor.
: Your life cannot be put at risk. We've already had one close call.
: Say goodbye to the friends you've made here.
: It's time to come home.
: [sighs]
: [swords clashing]
: [both breathing sharply]
: [emotional music plays]
: [growls]
: [grunts]
Lan: Wait.
: Your mind is elsewhere, sheepherder.
: You want to talk about it?
: [inhales deeply] Right.
: Parting the Silk.
: Show me.
: I healed those bruises in Tar Valon.
: I would've thought they were from the Forsaken attack, yet here they are…
: fresh again.
: -Are they from him? -[Egwene] No.
: I'm not here to help you control him, Moiraine.
: I'm here to protect him.
: So am I.
: But you're closest to him. You're the one who will see the first signs.
: And the more he channels, the more the madness will take him.
: She was almost faster than me.
: Almost.
: [Rand grunting, breathing sharply]
: Why does he waste his time with swords?
: They are not the Aiel way.
: When was the last time anyone caught their supper with a sword?
: [chuckles]
Egwene: Can't you see he's trying?
: We're on our way to the Aiel Waste.
: You wouldn't understand.
: Your wetland prophecies are all so clean.
: So easy.
: Your Dragon will either save the world or destroy it.
: Aiel prophecies don't say the same?
: "The Car'a'carn shall spill out the blood of those who call themselves Aiel as water on sand, and break them as dried twigs.
: Yet the remnant of a remnant the Car'a'carn shall save, and they shall live."
: Our Car'a'carn is creation and destruction wrapped in one.
: Balanced.
: It is my duty to return Rand al'Thor to the Three-fold Land, to my home, so that he may save my people and destroy them.
: The prophecy does not say that I must enjoy the task.
: [uplifting music plays]
: You're right.
: The air does smell better here.
: I wonder why that is.
: Perhaps it's a mixture of pollen and pine--
: It's clean. [inhales deeply]
: Like the Three-fold Land.
Chiad: I like this place.
: There's too much water, still, and the trees are still too big and too many, but…
: I like it.
Loial: And this is where Manetheren once stood.
: One of the greatest cities and armies the world has ever seen.
: [inhales deeply] That was a long time ago.
: We're farmers and shepherds now.
: If you say it.
: I've seen you dance the spears.
: -[chuckles] -[Chiad] But if you say it.
: [uplifting music plays]
: [villagers chattering]
: [children laughing]
: [wistful music playing]
: [villagers screaming]
: -[Trollocs roaring] -[Perrin] Laila, run!
: -[Laila shouts] -[Perrin groans]
: -[woman screaming] -[Perrin] No, Laila. No! [screams]
: -[Laila grunts, breathes raggedly] -[high-pitched ringing]
: -[Perrin grunts] -[Laila] No!
: -[Perrin panting] No. No, no. -[Laila gasping]
Perrin: Look at me. Look at me.
: -[horses neigh] -[Whitecloak] Make way!
: [villagers chattering]
Marin: Perrin?
: -Mistress al'Vere? [chuckling] -[chuckling]
: -I almost didn't know you with that beard. -[chuckles]
: -You look a proper man. -[Perrin chuckles]
: I've just had a letter from Egwene.
: She didn't tell me you were coming back here, much less with company.
: I am Loial, son of Arent, son of Halan.
: Your name sings in my ears, Mistress al'Vere.
: [stammers] And this is Bain and Chiad, Aielwomen and Maidens of the Spear.
: May you always have water and shade, roofmistress.
: We ask your leave to defend your roof and hold.
Perrin: What's going on?
: Why are the Whitecloaks here?
: So much has changed while you've been away.
: -It's not safe for you here, not anymore. -[Perrin, softly] What?
: [Marin] You can't be out in the open.
: Come on. We'll get you inside the Winespring. There's an attic.
: You can stay the night with the others, and then we'll send you all on your way tomorrow.
: [stammers] Others?
Marin: We thought it best for them to stay up here, out of the way.
: Before people started gossiping.
: Marin, just wait. I can't follow what you're saying.
Alanna: Imagine running into Perrin Aybara in the Two Rivers.
: The Wheel really does weave as it wills. [chuckles]
: What are you hearing among the Reds?
: My sisters are being very tight-lipped.
: Siuan has this Tower under lockdown.
: Whatever happened here recently, it was significant.
: Is Siuan losing support in the Hall?
: There is a real fear amongst the Sitters, which is uncommon.
: But we cannot underestimate the support she engenders.
: I made that mistake once before.
: And anything more about what happened to Elayne?
: Who took her?
: It seems the Tower had a Darkfriend right under their noses.
: Siuan said as much.
: Unthinkable as it is, the fact that she told me makes me very worried that it was something worse.
: Elaida Sedai will leave no stone unturned.
: We can expect that much.
: She'll only be in the Tower for a few days at most.
: Not enough time to make any real trouble.
: Mmm. She's still well-liked around here, hard as it is to believe.
: Those old allegiances could prove a threat.
: -We have the Black Ajah to worry about. -[inhales sharply]
: Anything from our seer?
: I don't like this.
: You've made your position known, Daughter.
: Verin, please.
: [sighs]
Verin: I've been having Min pose as a servant here, putting her around as many important sisters as I can.
: Go on, child. Tell her.
: I've been seeing dead Aes Sedai. Dead Warders, here, at the Tower.
: I thought you saw the future, not the past.
Min: Exactly.
: Whatever this battle is, it hasn't happened yet.
: Battle?
: [sighs]
: Can you be certain?
: What else could it be?
: At least nine Aes Sedai are as good as dead.
: -When? -I don't know.
: My visions don't come with a clock.
: It could be tomorrow, a year from now or ten.
Mat: [chuckles] Yeah, it's impressive, isn't it?
: [person] It is. [chuckles]
Mat: Try both hands.
: [person] Like this?
: Just like that.
: All right.
: [knocks on door]
: [visitor] Clara, are you in there?
: Clara, did you invite a friend?
: -[chuckles] -[knocks on door]
: Very cheeky.
: Come in! The more the merrier.
: [sighs] The Andoran princes are here.
: Oh.
: -Yeah, I mean, cheeky indeed. -[visitor] Put that thing away.
: -You have to come see this. [giggles] -[Clara giggles]
: I'm sorry, see what?
: [crowd cheering]
: -[swords clanging] -[grunts]
: -[groans] -[crowd] Ooh!
: [crowd cheering]
: -[swords clanging] -[grunting]
: [crowd cheering] Whoo!
: [both grunting]
: -[crowd] Ooh! -Up.
: [cheering continues]
: [both grunting]
: [giggles]
: [grunts, groans]
: [cheers]
: [princes grunting]
: -[cheering continues] -[Galad groans]
: [princes grunting]
: Didn't think you'd be in for this kind of thing, Nynaeve.
: I think everyone is in for this kind of thing, Mat.
: [groans]
Mat: Sorry, who are these tossers?
: Come on!
Elayne: My brothers.
Galad: On your feet.
: So they're princes or something?
: And they act like it. Entitled bastards.
: No offense, Elayne.
: None taken. Coming from someone sleeping with an actual king.
: [Galad grunts]
: [both grunting]
: -[hisses] -[cheering continues]
Mat: I've seen enough.
: [crowd] Oh!
: -[chattering] -[crowd cheering]
: Most people are happier to see their families.
: Well, my family never turns up anywhere without each one of them having 12 plots and plans they're hatching.
: And that's just what you can see on the surface.
: Sounds completely unlike you.
: [chuckles]
: I was told to deliver this to you by the Amyrlin Seat herself.
: [bell tolling in distance]
: [sighs]
: -[knocks on door] -[door opens]
Elayne: Mother, you sent for us?
: There was no one outside.
: Liandrin and her sisters went.
: But how many of their number did they leave behind like a stub in shallow water that you don't see till you've put a hole in your boat?
: I don't understand.
: You're the only two in the Tower I can be absolutely sure are not Black Ajah.
: Even Verin.
: Even Leane.
: Who knows how deep the Shadow's roots have taken hold here?
: What I do know is I will rip them out.
: [stammers] What does that have to do with us?
: [inhales sharply] You are to be my hounds, hunting down the Black Ajah.
: No one will believe it of you, not a pair of half-trained girls, scrubbing floors.
: [gasps] Nynaeve can't even channel when she wants, Mother.
: Each of you is a match for Liandrin in sheer power and she's their strongest.
: She could have killed you in the Hall and she didn't.
: Ask yourself why and how you might use that weakness against her.
: And why should we trust you?
: That's exactly how I want you to think.
: Elayne will go through the Arches tonight and then Verin will find you tomorrow and give you all the information we have so far about Liandrin and her sisters.
: And then you can start your search.
: The Amyrlin wasn't telling us the whole truth.
: Does any Aes Sedai ever?
: I saw Verin and Leane arguing this morning, deep in the Tower.
: There's something more going on with them. I know it.
: [indistinct whispering]
: We don't need to trust any of them, not even the Amyrlin, to do what's being asked of us.
: Because the truth is, she's right.
: Someone needs to find Liandrin.
: And if there are more Black Ajah still in the Tower?
: They will kill again unless they're rooted out.
: The only people I trust to do that are you and me.
: -[whispers] Nynaeve. -[gasps]
: I think the Amyrlin might've had another reason to pull me into this.
: My mother came here to take me back to Caemlyn.
: We leave tomorrow.
: What?
: No, y-you can't leave. Not now. You're going to be accepted.
: My duty is to the Lion Throne.
: And is the Lion Throne under threat?
: Your mother looks well in control of everything to me.
: I should've known better than to…
: Nynaeve.
: It started with the Trolloc attacks a few months back.
Perrin: Trollocs?
Marin: Nothing like Bel Tine.
: But groups of two or three would come for a family farm at night, taking sheep or cows first.
: Then one night, they took the Killarney's eldest sons.
: And that's when the Whitecloaks came.
: Perrin, they say they're here for you.
: For me?
Alanna: They said you killed a man in Falme.
: Geofram Bornhald.
: What else did they say?
Maksim: That you're a Darkfriend.
: What?
: Probably the eyes.
: A load of codswallop.
: Nobody but the Congars and Coplins pay any mind.
: But now they've offered 100 pieces of gold for anyone related to you, and more people are paying attention.
: What about my family?
Marin: Bran, Tam and Abell got them out.
: Those Whitecloaks, Perrin.
: I would've thought men sworn to the Light would be better than that.
Bain: Why don't you fight them off?
: Fight?
: Against proper soldiers?
: With pitchforks and sheep shears?
: [inhales sharply] And the Whitecloaks, bad as they are, they're our only real protection from the Trollocs.
Chiad: If you ask the lion to protect you from the bear, you've only chosen to end up in one belly instead of another.
: [gasps]
: [chuckles]
: And what about you two? Did you use the Ways to come here?
: Nynaeve told me you were in the battle with the Black Ajah.
: And that no one knew where you went after it ended.
: She was worried about you after what happened to your other Warder.
: Ihvon.
: [whetstone scraping]
: Why should any of you worry yourselves about us?
: May I ask what happened to your shoulder, Aes Sedai?
: Trollocs.
: Few are out there in the woods now.
Marin: Enough of this talk. Get some rest and I'll pack you some food.
: We'll get you fast horses in the morning and put you -on your way out of the Two Rivers. -No, I'm not leaving.
: [breathes shakily] Look, what the Whitecloaks said is true.
: [inhales deeply] I did kill Geofram Bornhald in Falme.
: [gasps]
: And if all this trouble is because they're looking for me, then there's a simple solution.
: I'll turn myself in.
: -[voices whispering] Damane. Damane. -[whimpers]
: [gasps]
: -[voices warbling, whispering] -[breathing heavily]
: -[thuds] -[whimpering]
Renna: Pour the water.
: -[shrieks] -[whimpers]
: -[whimpers] Renna, don't! -[shrieks]
: [choking, panting]
: [whimpers] No! No!
Rand: It's funny, I used to think this would be the only view I'd ever see.
: That the rest of my life was going to be here in Cairhien.
: In this room.
: Might have been a nice life.
: Not big enough for you, not by a mile.
: Not big enough for you either.
: You're heading to the Aiel Waste?
: What happened to Tear and Callandor?
: It's hard to protect you from the Forsaken if you don't tell me what you're doing, you're thinking.
: Well, it's harder to find me now.
: Perhaps, but don't get too comfortable, Rand.
: There are Darkfriends everywhere.
: I left the idea of comfort behind in the Two Rivers.
: No, you didn't.
: Come on.
: I remember a few things we did in this room which were far more exciting than the sunrise.
: -Lanfear. -[chuckles]
: -Is this about that doe-eyed cow? -Don't.
: [chuckles]
: Is that where you draw the line, name-calling?
: -You do amuse me, Rand al'Thor. -[sighs]
: Someday, she's going to see you as you really are, you know.
: The way I see you.
: All that darkness raging beneath that farm-boy smile.
: -[door opens] -[breathes shakily]
: [Egwene] Renna, wait!
: Do you really think she'll love that?
: [grunting]
: No, please! [grunts]
: [breathes heavily]
: [inhales sharply]
: Uh-uh, you shouldn't.
: [wails] No!
: I'll see you soon.
: Enjoy the sunrise.
: [grunts, gasps] No, please, stop!
: [crying] Stop, I can't breathe.
: [whimpering]
: [grunts, breathes shakily]
: [exhales sharply]
: What did I…
: [whispers echoing]
: You do not belong here.
: [whimpering, panting]
: Hey, it's all right. It's all right.
: Come here. You're safe. You're safe.
: It's all right. Hey.
: [sighs] Sorry. [inhales sharply]
: No, it's okay.
: [exhales sharply] Sorry, it just… [breathing shakily]
: …it feels so real.
: Was it the Arches again?
: Renna?
: It's Renna.
: Something I don't understand.
: An Aielwoman in the desert.
: I have nightmares too.
: Remembering things I've done.
: And what you had to go through was terrible.
: I don't regret it though.
: If Renna was here now, I'd kill her again.
: I just wish she'd stay dead.
: [muffled moaning]
: [sighs] God.
: [inhales sharply] Shh.
: -[knocks on door] -[gasps]
: [knocks on door]
: Coming! [grunts]
: Clara, is that you?
: [muffled giggling]
: -Hell-- -Ugh, Light.
: -Put a shirt on. -Min? What?
: Seriously, can you close your robe? I can't look at that.
: I didn't invite you to look at this.
: Anyway, what are you wearing? You look like you're working here.
: -It's called a disguise, all right? -All right, well, word of advice, they normally don't come and clean the rooms in the middle of the night.
: -This way above my pay grade. -[muffled moaning continues]
: [gasps] Is that…
: -[groans] Yes! -[chuckles]
: -That is Galad. -[Galad moaning] Ah, yes!
: -And that… -[chuckling]
: -[Gawyn moaning] -…is Gawyn.
: So yeah, I think I'd prefer my dungeon cell at this point.
: [chuckling]
: Well, come on. Why are you here, Min?
: Siuan wants to see you.
: And there it is.
: So you're not just working. Well, of course not. No.
: You're working for the Amyrlin Seat herself. Siuan even. That's casual.
: I know you're upset with me for how things went the last time we saw each other but--
: Yes, you could say that I'm still a bit upset about how you sold me out to the Forsaken.
: I'm trying to apologize.
: And I don't hear you saying the word "sorry."
: I am, Mat.
: -[sighs] -I'm sorry.
: But I swear to you I didn't know tha--
: You said that the Amyrlin Seat wanted to see me. So should we just go?
: [scoffs]
: Bring the horn.
: You heard about that?
: [scoffs]
: [door opens]
: [scoffs]
: [sighs]
: Mum?
: [melancholy music plays]
: [Gaebril] It suits you.
: -[inhales sharply] Gaebril. -[Gaebril chuckles]
: I… I didn't hear you come in.
: -Stole this from the kitchens. -[laughs]
: Don't tell on me.
: I won't tell on you if you don't tell on me.
: [chuckles] You want some?
: -[softly] Desperately. -Come.
: -To the Daughter-Heir of Andor. -[chuckles]
: To the most popular Prince Consort in all the land.
: -[both chuckling] -Long may he reign.
: [sighs]
: -[inhales, sighs] -Where is everyone?
: I was hoping to find Mother.
: [sighs] You know her, always politicking.
: And the boys?
: I think they might be busy after that little show they put on this afternoon.
: [chuckles] Course they are.
: [chuckles, inhales sharply] Don't they have any other party tricks?
: Do they need any?
: Though how anyone can tolerate Galad after talking to him for more than one second, -is beyond me. -[chuckles]
: I was really hoping he wasn't serious earlier.
: About Mother wanting me home.
: I know, sweetheart.
: I'm not ready to go back.
: You mother would never tell you this herself, especially not here, but…
: she's facing challenges at home.
: From the noble houses?
: Worse, the people.
: The military.
: You may have heard she had to dismiss Captain-General Bryne.
: No, I hadn't heard that.
: Your position as heir is, for the very first time since she ascended, vulnerable.
: She hadn't told me any of this.
: Well, let's keep it between us.
: I know she'll tell you eventually. [inhales deeply]
: But I thought you deserved to know now.
: Thank you for telling me.
: [chuckles] Besides, you've left me alone with your ghastly brothers for too long.
: All they do is train.
: We need some sense -returned to the palace halls. -Sense? [chuckles]
: Hardly. All you and I do when we're home is drink like fish.
: What better sense is there than that?
: [both chuckle]
: [door opens]
: Your Majesty.
: I am the Matrim Cauthon.
: Hornblower, if you prefer.
: Have a seat.
: Thank you.
: I understand, Matrim, that you blew the Horn of Valere.
: [Mat] Mmm.
: That you summoned the greatest heroes from ages past to battle against the Forsaken, Ishamael, at Falme.
: [clicks tongue, chuckles] Well, uh, normally, I would never be one to brag, but I can humbly confirm that what you say is indeed factually correct.
: -[huffs] -Mmm.
: It is a powerful object, -the Horn of Valere. -Yeah.
: For you, it will summon dead heroes back from the grave.
: For anyone else, it's only a horn…
: -so long as you live. Mmm. -Thank you.
: S-Sorry, sorry, um…
: so long as I live?
: If you die, then the ownership of the Horn goes to the next person who blows it.
: So, I'm sure you wouldn't wanna tell anyone -about being the Hornblower… -Oh, no…
: …or about having the Horn in your possession…
: -[stammers] -…fully accessible to anyone who might want to kill you and take it.
: No.
: And I'm sure you would never use it as social capital among the novices of this very Tower or… [chuckles]
: …do something as stupid as have your portrait painted posing with it.
: I… [chuckles]
: I would never…
: N-No.
: Would you like to give the Horn to me for safekeeping?
: Y-Yes.
: -Yes. Yes. -Oh, thank you.
: You know, you remind me of someone.
: My uncle Huan.
: He was, um… No one could ever pin him down.
: He liked to gamble too, and he'd much rather have fun than go to work.
: He died pulling children from a burning house.
: He wouldn't stop going back in till the last one was out.
: Are you like him, Mat?
: Will you be there when the flames are high?
: [sighs] I'm no hero.
: [clears throat]
: [breathes shakily] I do what I have to do, but…
: I'm no hero.
: Those we call heroes only did what they had to do.
: You can go.
: Elayne.
: [both kiss]
: [Morgase] It's very late.
: What's all this about?
: I'm not coming with you, Mother.
: [inhales deeply] Is that so?
: Since I was a child, I've worried about filling your shoes.
: A queen who can out-strategize and outmaneuver any opponent.
: Who fought and won a war for the crown when she was younger than I am now.
: But the truth is, I can't follow in your footsteps.
: I must forge my own path.
: The last Daughter-Heir who set off on her own disappeared without trace and was never heard from again. There never was a Queen Tigraine.
: And yet, Tigraine leaving is why you were able to ascend the throne. The Pattern weaves in ways that we don't understand, but what do know is the Last Battle is coming, and to think Andor won't be on the front lines of it is naive. As terrifying as it was to be dragged half a world away to Falme, I fought in a battle against a Forsaken. I healed the Dragon Reborn as he clung to life, and here, too, there's work I must do. I mean to make Andor's most important alliance iron-clad.
: For Andor's sake? Or for Siuan's?
: For mine.
: I will go through the arches tonight, I will root out the Shadow in this Tower, and I will become the first Aes Sedai queen.
: [breathes shakily] It's too dangerous.
: I won't lose you.
: There is no going back to a cloistered life inside palace walls.
: Far too much is at stake.
: As my queen, as your Daughter-Heir, we both know safety is a luxury this world no longer affords us.
: My path will always lead back to Andor.
: To the Lion Throne.
: [softly] But I must earn it first.
: As you once did.
: I will be a better ruler for it.
: [sighs] How did you get so wise?
: [both chuckle softly]
: I must have learned from the best.
: [both sigh]
: [breathes shakily]
: [door opens]
: [chuckles softly]
: [door closes]
: Are you going to keep ignoring me?
: Why are you training with Lan?
: He listens.
: I feel grounded with a sword in my hands.
: It's something I can control.
: You have to channel eventually, Rand.
: You have to.
: -I know you're afraid of it-- -I'm not afraid of it.
: You don't understand at all, do you?
: I'm dying of thirst.
: And there it is, a pond, right in front of me.
: -[weave chiming] -And the water tastes like life itself.
: Trust me. I understand.
: [Rand] It's so sweet.
: But it's poison too.
: It fills my stomach with filth.
: -So… bitter. -[weave whooshing]
: But I don't care.
: 'Cause I just want to taste the sweetness forever.
: Do you understand that?
: No.
: But you will have to.
: You have to embrace the bitter and the sweet, so you never forget which is which.
: [Siuan] Safe travels back to Caemlyn, Queen Morgase. I…
: I hope you got what you came for.
: Perhaps you've heard.
: Elayne's brothers are going to remain here at the Tower and begin their Warder training.
: Indeed I did.
: I am not sure the novices will ever recover.
: [Morgase, court members chuckle]
: I am also leaving Elaida Sedai here at the Tower.
: [court members muttering]
: There has been an Aes Sedai advisor in Andor for over 1,000 years.
: [Morgase] I'm sure the Tower can use as many strong sisters as it can get right now.
: And who's stronger than the woman who almost bested you to the Amyrlin Seat?
: You encouraged me to speak freely.
: So let me do just that.
: If anything happens to Elayne, and I mean anything, the next time I come to these Shining Walls, I will have my army at my back.
: The Tower has never tested itself against the full strength of Andor, and I don't think either of us wants to see what will happen if it does.
: I assure you, we do not.
: [dramatic music plays]
: [upbeat music plays]
: [Moiraine] The Aiel Waste.
: [sighs]
Aviendha: Who did you tell we were coming here?
: No one.
Aviendha: Who did you tell?
: [both gasp]
: [gasps]
: This is him?
: "He will come from the west, beyond the Spine of the World.
: Of the blood but not raised by the blood.
: He will tie us together with bonds we cannot break.
: He will take us back home…
: and he will destroy us."
