Synopsis[]
Official episode synopsis for A Place of Safety from Prime Video:[1]
Moiraine and Lan find help in an unexpected – and unwanted – quarter, as the separated villagers try to find their way back to each other, or at least to refuge. But they all soon learn how far the Dark One’s reach extends, and how few they can trust on the road.
Plot summary[]
Cold Open[]
A dazed Nynaeve al'Meara returns to consciousness and escapes from her trolloc captor. She flees to the sacred pool in the cave, where she hides. The trolloc enters the cave and Nynaeve stabs it with its own blade.
Nynaeve, Lan, and Moiraine[]
Nynaeve tracks Lan Gaidin and finds him with Moiraine Sedai, although he admits he left the Two Rivers folks behind in Shadar Logoth. In anger, Nyneave tries to stab Lan with the weapon she took from the trolloc, but he swiftly disarms her and knocks her unconscious, though not before she bites his hand as he grabs her. Later, Nynaeve finds herself tied to a tree, bound and gagged. Lan eventually frees her and asks her to help Moiraine, who is still unconscious and very ill from her wound made by a trolloc blade. Nynaeve agrees to help, and under Lan's supervision and with much chagrin tends to Moiraine's wound. Nynaeve struggles to heal Moiraine, telling Lan it's like a poison she's never seen the likes of before. Lan leaves Nynaeve to watch over Moiraine in search of help. Eventually, Lan returns to collect Moiraine and Nynaeve. They ride southeast and find an Aes Sedai camp where Logain, the captured False Dragon, is held.
Rand and Mat[]
In the hills outside Shadar Logoth, Rand al'Thor and Mat Cauthon try to decide their path. Mat wants to go back to the Two Rivers; Rand convinces him to continue towards Tar Valon because Egwene will be heading there. They eventually come to Breen's Spring, where they find a dead Aiel in a cage on the outskirts of town. They stop at the Four Kings Inn, where they meet the innkeeper, Dana. They also meet Thom Merrilin, a Gleeman. After a somber performance of The Man Who Can't Forget, Thom reveals to the boys that he has pickpocketed the pickpocket who previously picked Mat's pocket but refuses to return the purse as a "lesson." The boys convince Dana to let them work for a place to sleep that night, and she sets them to chores. Mat displays unusual malice towards Rand, telling him he doesn't have to go to Tar Valon for Egwene because she wouldn't do it for him. Mat helps Dana serve inside the inn. Later, Dana takes Rand to a room where he invites her to drink. After spending some time talking, Dana tries to kiss Rand before suddenly locking the door and grabbing Rand's sword, keeping him hostage. Rand smashes down the heavy ironwood door in a miraculous feat of strength and escapes into the street. Thom finds Mat staring at the dead Aiel in the cage on the outskirts of town. They take the cage down, and Thom lets Mat loot the body before burying it. Mat asks for his purse back, and Thom agrees before Mat reveals that he has already stolen back his purse from Thom. Mat heads back into town and meets Rand running down the street pursued by Dana, still wielding the sword. Dana quickly corners them and reveals herself as a Darkfriend with a mission to deliver the Dragon Reborn to the Dark One. She also admits she has called a Fade before she is suddenly killed from behind by a knife thrown by Thom Merrilin. Rand, Mat, and Thom flee Breen's Spring heading east.
Perrin and Egwene[]
Across the Caralain Grass, Perrin Aybara and Egwene al'Vere flee a pack of wolves. Stopping to rest and shelter, they both attempt to build a fire; Perrin with flint and steel and Egwene with the One Power, though they aren't sure who eventually starts the fire. Perrin has a Dream in which he is back at his smithy, glimpsing the man with eyes and mouth of flame and a wolf eating Laila's undead corpse. When he wakes, the wolves are nearer, and he flees with Egwene. Eventually, they find tracks left by a wagon train and follow them. After a time, they enter a dense fog where they encounter a group of Tuatha'an, also called the Traveling People or the Tinkers. They are taken in and given food, blankets, and shelter among the caravan.
